Torque 3D 1.2 - Art Packs Revealed

Welcome back to another Torque 3D 1.2 Friday. Sorry I’ve missed the last few Fridays, luckily Eric, Mich and Dexter were able to pick up the slack with a Company Update and several Zombie inspired blogs here, here and here. On the Torque 3D 1.2 front we have been pushing hard in all disciplines (art, code, docs, marketing and web) to get everything together for the release. In fact I am very happy to say that we are entering our polish week and there is a very good chance that my blog next week will be the release blog.This week I wanted to dive into several of the art packs we will be releasing alongside Torque 3D 1.2. First up is the Alien Character Pack:

Alien Art Pack
The Alien is setup to work with Torque 3D 1.2 and features a robust set of character animations as well as the 1st person arms that are part of 1.2. As always source files are provided for those of you brave enough to tune, tweek and add to the existing art.

Alien Weapon Pack
Once we had the Alien running around Chinatown we realized that he needed some weapons to play with. So we created 3 unique, pristine, surgical instruments to assist in destroying mankind. As an added bonus the Soldier can use these as well.

Soldier Weapon Pack
Torque 3D 1.2 already ships with several cool new weapons (pistol, proximity mine and a deploy-able AI turret) but we felt like a good soldier should have an expansive weapons arsenal. So we put together a Soldier Weapons pack featuring 4 new weapons:





All of these packs will be launching alongside Torque 3D 1.2 and really enhance the experience of the Tutorial though, they could really be used for a multitude of game types. They should also work in Torque 3D 1.1, though those users won’t be able to take advantage of the new features that Torque 3D 1.2 has to offer. Back to polishing everything up and fingers crossed releasing this to the world next week, have a great weekend!

Alright! Soooo Close now....
Can't wait to fiddle around with all the new features...
Been messing around, bidding my time with learning as much as I can, and now when I get the new release I feel ready to start work with developing my 1st game!

Kick ass blog! I can't tell you how much more fun it was to blast the zombies with the new weapons. You can't have a zombie demo without a shotgun.

@Edward Smith: Unfortunately the Weapon Art Packs do not include scripted iron sights.

Is that a bullet casing I see being ejected from the alien rocket launcher? (behind to the right, barely visible)

@Michael Tornberg: Good catch, it does in fact appear to be a bullet casing. I've gone ahead and replaced the image with another one until I can sort out the issue on Monday.

Would it be possible to add iron sight scripting to at least one weapon? For instance a gun. I am sure those interested could implement the solution to other weapons, once they see how it's done.

Great-looking packs again!

@Steve: If they have acid for blood they might in fact smell better than humans. So zombies have to be the worst, being rotting humans. Humans *stink*.
