Can the Torque Community buy Torque?

by Vincent BILLET · 11/12/2010 (12:40 pm) · 27 comments

I discovered Torque in 2004. Torque is really a good engine. The main strength is it's community.

So Now, reading www.torquepowered.com/community/blogs/view/20495, Eric says : "InstantAction explores opportunities with potential buyers for Torque."...

So It mean that Torque isn't dead. Why Instant Action couldn't sell Torque to the community? Like blender was paying software, when they decided to stop it, community bought it, and make it bigger and free.

So.. If some Community members want to buy Torque, they should say "Yes, Torque is a good product, and I want to buy and own it."

Voilà

guess it depends on how many people go for it, and how much they want for it will determine what each share is worth. This should only be a last resort. With the right company buying Torque that has the same passion as those that developed it, its a win win situation.

Yes, I hope by this blog, Instant Action make price offer to the community. Of course this should only be a last resort.

Honestly IA should give it to the community as a sign of goodwill for never giving us a stable feature complete engine.

IAC is a business to you think that the bean counters in a liquidation care about showing any of us good will. Anyone who gave a rats @$$ about any of us or our projects has been handed their hat!

Torque/TP/GG as a brand is an "asset" to IA, and as they have the winding down orders, either the brand as a whole or individual engines/products as a last resort would be sold off by the liquidators to cover some of the debt's that the owners have.

If torque fails to find a buyer, I am all for it. I can throw in a few $100 for it. Lets see what happens in the next few days.

Blender was an internal tool used by a TV company. The Torque engines have been licensed for profit since the beginning. There's a difference.

If you got a Facebook-Account, i created a group and an event for the community's survival. In worst case we might find each other there:

Actually - and according to the blender website you are not 100% accurate.

Count me in. T3D hits a sweet spot for me and I'd rather contribute to its open sourcing than any other option.

I say IA goes and sells their games as a profit. I'd definitely buy them. If I could buy the source code? Hnnngggg..

But once I scrap some cash up I might be able to chip in.

Not the same as NeoGeo the game company if that is what you are thinking.

I would be willing to pitch in as well, but first would like to see what happens. Torque 3D was for all intensive purposes a finished product. I think although this is an unfortunate situation IAC put a good deal of money into torque and the people working on it greatly improved it from the TGEA days. If a good buyer (as others have said) picks it up and helps continue the good work that may be a better option.
