Introduction
Hi guys, this is Thanhda from Digital Shock. As some of you already know, we are offering 2D & 3D Contract artwork through the TorquePowered Store. This week I will be going over our new Intern pricing, showing you how you can save money.Digital Shock is always looking for ways to save the independent community money. We are proud to launch our new program of offering our community a chance to save money. How this works is simple, we are now accepting interns into our company along with junior artist. By doing so we are opening a special pricing for Torque community members exclusively by having an option of hiring one of our interns or junior artist to work on your project.
What does this mean? Will you get lower quality work? The answer is no, we will always have a senior artist looking over most of the work to assure that you get at least an A quality product.
So what’s the catch if the quality work is going to be close enough? The answer is time, when having our intern artist working on the task on hand it may take a little longer to produce the work. If you were in no big rush, then this would be the perfect opportunity for you.
What if you don’t want an intern working on your project, but still want to take advantage of our discount pricing? Well we will be offering an upgrade to a junior artist for an additional $30 per manday, which is discounted from our normal upgrade of an additional $80 per manday.
Intern - $120 manday Normal Rate: NA (Torque Community Exclusive)
Junior - $150 manday Normal Rate: $200 manday
Exp - Please contact
Senior - Please contact
This license agreement is for independent developers only that generate less then $250k profit USD per year. If you do make more then that, please contact info@digitalshock.net for our corporate discount.
*All payments required to be paid via wire transfer as well with a standard $40 admin fee per transaction. All funds are in USD

You should really start doing packs like 3DRT or Dexsoft. Most useful for indies.

If I remember correctly, they sort of mentioned that, Guimo. You can get discounted work, if you don't mind them selling the models to others after a time-limit passes.

Your demo reel is really great! And art level is just superb, also it's really nice that you are offering pretty solid discounts for indie developers. Indie games should not only be innovative and interesting but also have descend graphics.

If you can prove that your customers have full confidence in your services then you should get more business due to that simple task.
Client confidence is a huge marketing point.

What would be nice is to see a site where people who have used your services can leave unbiased, uncensored feedback. If you can prove that your customers have full confidence in your services then you should get more business due to that simple task.
Client confidence is a huge marketing point.

That was an old deal that was proven unsuccessful in this community. This is a new deal we are offering with our new Intern/Junior Program.
@Guimo
We are in discussion of something like that very soon.

“Thanhda, and his studio Digital Shock, was able to provide Newtoy with high quality, cost-effective art outsourcing. They met our aggressive schedule, ramping up quickly to satisfy our needs. We were very happy with the quality of Digital Shock's work, particularly in the area of organic characters (bipeds), rigs, and animations. They delivered results that were compatible with our tools and pipeline and we were able to put them right into the game. Communication with Thanhda and his team during the development process was hassle-free. Revisions were incorporated quickly and the end results are fantastic. We will definitely be working with Thanhda + Digital Shock in the future.” November 23, 2009

well, I was talking about using it for marketing purposes. I didn't really need to be shown any T.

Nice to know the price ranges then trying to guess how many "man hours" are needed for a project.
Should expand the prices for customers looking for certain things like individual textures and stuff.
Drove myself crazy trying to figure out how T3D do terrain textures and finally figured it out. Kept getting weird looking ground til I figured it out. Now I'm being driven crazy on the sky textures. haha

Package 2 looks good to me. Question though. What would be considered "Complex Animations"? Are the $40 and $60 prices for each individual animation. So let's say I have a run, jump and crawl, would this total up to $120?

Here's a few curious questions. How would a tree be treated for pricing? Would you need to pay extra for any billboards on it?

Now using the DSN prices provided by Thanda we might break down it as:
Low poly Package #1
Specs: Tris: 300~2000
Texture: 256x256
Price: $300 USD
Rigging: + $120
Basic Animations (x7): + $40 x 6 = 240
Complex Animations: + $60 x 1 = 60
Normal Map: + $360
Upgrade Textures size: + $60 (to reach 512)
For a grand total of: $1140.
So as you can see its still a way better value. I would like to ask if the modelling price includes 1 LOD but I can live with this.
Notice that if you contact Thandha directly he will probably will make a full package price. He is quite helpful.
What I would like to ask... how much time would it take an intern to do this work. I mean... $1140 is almost 9.5 man days paying an intern. Using 8 hours/day then you would get 76 hours of work.
Now please correct me on this. In my experience, an artist can model, rig, texture and animate a model in an average 40 hours. Basically this means that by hiring an intern you may get a model for about $600 which is a really cool price.
Anyway, I'm just trying to make an idea of the potential benefits of hiring per day.
Luck!

If anyone would like to compare. I just received a quote from a chinese provider with an office in the US. I requested a monster like a Hydra, Griffon or similar with Warcraft style and 7 animations. 2k polys and one LOD of 1k polys. They would charge me $1500 per each creature with normal maps and 512 texture. I won't tell the studio name but they have really good quality. Now using the DSN prices provided by Thanda we might break down it as:
Low poly Package #1

That should take no more than 3-4 days in all seriousness.
