The Domino Effect- Vietnam (Dev Report #1)

Hey everyone! Well it's been a very long time since I actually got a significant amount of time to work on my project, with school, sports, and more school. A few months ago, I started working on a Vietnam War based FPS game. I had one level completed, but I was disappointed with it. It didn't give me that feel that I was hoping for, that setting of a dense, dark, foggy, and overgrown jungle. So I scrapped everything I had done and decided I would sacrifice quantity for quality. Well, actually what I mean is that I will take my time on everything, until it has reached a level to which I am satisfied with. And so I began reworking everything I had done. Instead of creating a jungle mission first, I decided that I'd create a city as my warm up. So I began creating the city of Hue. Currently this is what I am still working on, while cramming a few features as I go. As of right now, there is so much work to be done on this mission that it's not quite ready for public viewing yet, however I felt that this blog was necessary to empty my mind of the ideas and thoughts that have been brewing inside. However, I have accomplished a few things that I think are pretty cool.

Stuff I'm Working On:
1. If a large amount of explosions surround an AI player, he will flee and run into the nearest interior so as to avoid the bombardment.
2. Giving the teams the ability for an artillery attack, where a bombardment will rain from the sky and destroy the enemy units below.
3. Lots and lots of buildings! Buildings that have been partially destroyed, buildings with vantage points, buildings with good cover, and buildings with no cover.

Stuff I've Done:
1. Implemented the modernization kit, the killer kork resource, and have begun to look into scripting on my own.
2. Created a variety of textures to use for my buildings and landscapes.
3. Made what I see as a pretty awesome explosion. Initial circular smoke blast and immediately dirt shoots up and rocks spew from the sides. (I'll post a picture next week)

So if you've read this long and boring illustratedless blog, thanks for listening! I'll have some pictures for everyone next friday! Hopefully with a video, assuming I get my AI feature working! Thanks everyone!

This sounds cool. I love this sort of game and was working on one back when Torque first came out.

Good luck :-)

Krystian, keep it up. I'd love to see a screen of the explosion.
