Introduction

static.garagegames.com/static/pg/productpages/digital-shock/product_main_digital-shock.jpgHi guys, this is Thanhda from Digital Shock. As some of you already know, we are offering 2D & 3D Contract artwork through the TorquePowered Store. This week I will be going over our new Community Content Pack, showing you how you can save money.

Torque Powered & Digital Shock team wants to offer the community a group content pack. What we would like to know from the community is what are you interested in?

To test the waters Digital Shock will be accepting 1 Character, and 1 Environment pack.

The question is what would you the community like to see as the first Character pack, and what would you like to see in the first Environment pack.

Please leave your feedback including:

- How much are you willing to spend on the Character/Environment pack
- What Genre are you looking at? Sci-Fi? Fantasy?
- Can you provide a reference? Including screenshots from other games, or images.
- What quality level are we talking about? PSP? Xbox360? Etc

After we gather enough information from the community, we will come up with a few concepts of multiple environment pack, and we will let the community decide from there.

Q. How is this going to work?
A. We haven’t quite worked out all the kinks yet, but we will be setting x amount of seats required at x dollar value. When the seats fill up, we will make the pack. This may however require a pre-order payment to be made before we can begin production.

We will most likely be required a Credit Card number to be placed in file, pending the kit. Customers can back out or cancel the order at anytime. Once all seats are filled, we will be sending out an email stating that the seats are filled and ready to go. If everyone confirms that they want to proceed, we will take the payment.

Q. Can I submit my concept work to be made into a content pack?
A. Of course.

Well lets get started on the ideas shall we.

Hi Thandha,

- How much are you willing to spend on the Character/Environment pack
Depends on the number of assets and the flexibility. Look at the 3DRT models they give a lot of skins making the model more reusable.

What Genre are you looking at? Sci-Fi? Fantasy?
Fantasy.

- Can you provide a reference? Including screenshots from other games, or images.
Warcraft style but higher poly count.

What quality level are we talking about? PSP? Xbox360? Etc
6k polys and two LOD of 3000 and 1000 polys.

What I would love to see is a quality monsters pack. You can find characters in a lot of places and to be honest characters are quite dependant on the game. On the other hand, monsters are not. Once you have a dragon or a Ent, you can use it in multiple games (given the same general art style of course).

So lets see if your business model works. I don't know how many people are willing to invest upfront and most important, getting into a decision about what kind of pack to create.

Luck!

I agree with Guimo in that pricing should be determined on number of assets and flexibility. (The Valve approach were you can seem some of the same assets in quite a few games of theirs)

I'd like to see an awesome huge collection of modern fire arms including animations and sprites. Maybe some near futuristic versions, the XM8 as an example, as well. 1st person texture at 1024x and higher poly. 3rd person/spectator texture 512x and lower poly count with 2 LODs perhaps
(Re-Usability of the weapons is pretty likely, at least in my case)

Battlefield 2142, Bad Company, Crysis, F.E.A.R. 2, Modern Warfare 2

As you said, there are some kinks that need to be worked out. Personally, sending out a credit card number is a bit uneasy to some. Would there be an alternative option such as PayPal?

I'm not following what you mean by this exactly. Could you elaborate?

- Character pack, if I can easily make it look more unique and it provides all the animations I want and link in to other things like GMK for rag dolls etc - so $20 for a more basic pack, create your own crouch etc animations up to $80 for a customisation pack with a heap of animations with link ins to like GMK's pack and others.

- What Genre are you looking at? I'm currently looking for realistic/sci-fi or military it would be good to be able to have a player model which is say military but can easily be changed to be more sci-fi or civilian.

- What quality level are we talking about? Quality level I think should be aimed to be released next year on PC for Mid-high range pcs.

Hi Thandha,

- How much are you willing to spend on the Character/Environment pack
Depends on the number of assets as stated before, also keep it the same price range as the others $50.00 - $100.00USD.

What Genre are you looking at? Sci-Fi? Fantasy?
Anything really but personally I would like to see more modern realistic assets.

- Can you provide a reference? Including screenshots from other games, or images.
Just an example
neighborhood something like
www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo70AgInAUA
www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/homes-neighborhood-construction-3d-max/372492
with five houses two enterable and three non enterable
props like fences, mail boxes, side walls, and street signs.

What quality level are we talking about? PSP? Xbox360? Etc
1k- 10k (and up), PS3, Wii, and X box 360 style.

One more thing... the file formats. Not all indies have (or even know how to use) Max, Maya, Softimage or such fancy packages (even Blender is a monster). I got Milkshape for my common needs :)

How much are you willing to spend on the Character/Environment pack?

I think for a character pack (which I am interested it) rather than a single character, a pack of characters.

What Genre are you looking at? Sci-Fi? Fantasy?

I am looking (like Guimo) for a monster pack, but specifically some zombies for use in a iPhone horror game. This would mean not high poly so as to be able to have say 15 on screen as 1 time.

Can you provide a reference? Including screenshots from other games, or images

Sure! www.3drt.com/3dm/characters/real-zombies/real-zombies-shots.htm I am wanting something like this, except not as many animations (idle, run, strafe left and right, jump and 2 or 3 attacks (melee)

What quality level are we talking about? PSP? Xbox360? Etc
Well, as I said above, for use with iPhone at a good frame rate.

Other comments:

Please make sure that these packs are aimed at the hobbyist/small budget indies, not the $100K ones (because they can just get your contract work). For what I mentioned, I would be happy to pay around $50

And as Guimo said, have ready-to-go .dts with .dsq. And you can have any other file formats you ,ight want (collada etc)

Thanks!

I don't think you need another link as those are scans of the real thing can't get much better then that.

What quality level are we talking about? PSP? Xbox360?

next-gen, computer

Other comments:

Cloths, Jewelry, other need not be part of the final character but can still be included in the pack.

Formats to work with T3D and have it rigged and ready to be put in a 3d program and ready for animation.
