Journal Land Pick of the Week

Warp Pipe to Professional Game Development - zyrolasting has a mini-article about how to properly manage your code in projects, based on answers he has been giving on the forums, repeating himself often.

From the Staff

* There is no escape from the Washu - Washu has been hacking together a mobile version of the site - it's all very basic and is just him getting a feel for what's possible. We've always kicked around the idea of a mobile site (or app) but that's about it. Now Washu's actually playing around with stuff, so give him feedback!

Project Updates

* IfThen Software LLC - VBStrider posted two newsletters this week. Of the two, this one is the most interesting, with images of the pumpkin carving contest IfThen Software held over the Halloween season

* Merry Prankster Games - gdunbar startes building out environments for his 10 Fantasy Fights project

* Radioactive-Software - dgreen02 squeezes in another huge update to Warbots Online. He introduced IK to the game's physics and has built a gigantic 4-legged mech that's something between a Star Wars AT-AT and a War Of The Worlds Martian Tripod. Whatever - it's intimidating. That, plus tons of hi-res screens and even some code, and you got most of your Weekend Reading right there!

* Journal of lucius - lucius continues to pour tons more detail into the universe he is building his latest project in. Not only has he covered the solar system and planetary environment, but now he's delving into NPC thought processes - Cognitive Architecture. Yes, it's deep.

* Under a ShadowyTree - Black Knight has releases Dark Age Version 0.4.869. It's the first new release in 6 months so it's got a ton of new stuff

Game Dev Stuffs

* istar's Game Life - istar has some rough notes from what appears to be Clinton Keith's Lean Development lecture from GDC China (I witnessed it at MIGS this past week). It's not a whole lot to go on, but who knows what you may get out of it?

* Journal of a Shaven Ape - besides letting us know he's still alive (and has a baby girl!) LachlanL links to a post on why you shouldn't want to work in the games industry. I think it's good to see people writing stuff like this, but I express my views in the comments to LachlanL's post.

Other Stuffs

* Not dead... - phantom writes an extensive Modern Warfare 2 review, focusing on the controversial "No Russian" level as well

* OddGames development journal - O-san has overhauled his website for Oddgames.

* Metaphorical Journeys of Happenstance - Ravuya's been busy with schoolwork, gaming, devving and moderating. He has a quick update about his latest exploits and what he plans for The Lounge

* Any Colour You Like - it's time for another edition of Stuff I Don't Fully Understand, But Recognize Is Cool - with your host, benryves. In this issue: "USB joypads and text on your TV courtesy of an ATmega168"
