Art Art Art! Unearthly challenge, Contract work, busy busy!

Haven't posted in a long time, felt I had enough of a break to finally post something.

I am ultra busy now a days, managing so many projects my head is spinning most of the time.

Unearthly Challenge
So first off, I'm working on an Unearthly Challenge Entry, its going to be in T3D (I'd love to land that license of it). My take on "End Game", is a Chess Match. Checkmate for me is iconic of End Game, so i decided to do a sci-fi spin on that. A giant Obelisk (representing the Queen) looms over a downed Space Cruiser (representing the King), with a Transport looking over on the wrong side of a broken Bridge (represents the Knight Piece).

I'll be symbolizing the other pieces in the rest of the environment (i'm so glad the deadline was extended).

I should have an untextured "Model complete" version around Wednesday of next week.

Warlord Kingdoms
So I was working on a Fantasy RTS (using TGEA) under my Startup, Algitt Studios LLC. I was working with Matt Huston on a Prototype, he does amazing work, I can't give enough credit to him. If you are looking to hire a fantastic freelance programmer, contact Matt. The game is currently on hold, as I try to become a programmer, and keep plugging away trying to find some more capital. (Sorry no pics of that one =))

War of Words
I'm doing contract Artwork for "War of Words", being developed by Tim LaBonne. He created Fruit Attack on Xbox Live Indie Games, this is another XBLIG game. It's gonna be alot of fun, its soaking up alot of my time, but I wouldn't have it any other way. He's a screenshot he posted on his blog (I haven't done Character Avatars yet, just the GUIs and backgrounds).

Wind
I just noticed I'm working on alot of "W" projects, lol. Anyway, I'm the Director of a 3D Animated Short as well. It's a Sci-Fi Noir, called Wind. I wear alot of hats on that project (Character Designer, 3D Modeler, Skinner, Texturer, Storyboards, Animatics, Rigging, etc), but here are some of the character Models that I've been working on.

(Sorry they are low rez, because they are ripped from a video of the turnarounds)

On top of all of that, I'm teaching myself C++, its a long boat, but I want to be able to be a programmer/artist/designer, who can help every one on the team, and has enough understanding to do a little of everything. Questions, comments, I'm always listening!

@Stephen, Good luck learning all of the C++ engine coding, C++ method coding, C++ AI coding, C++ etc. coding stuff with the torque script coding as well as all of the texturing artist, animating artist, modelling artist, 2D concept design artist stuff.

I've been at this for about 3 years now and I would still consider myself an amature C++ programmer. I've taken classes on the topic and others similar to it and I can still honestly say. I'm a newb.

I do admit, however that I think I have a great understanding of Torque script now. And I am improving by what seems to me leaps and bounds on the C++ side of things.

I know for sure that If I would have spent any amount of time on learning ART I might not be anywhere close to where I am right now three years later.

What is your IQ if you don't mind me asking?

JesseL: Thanks for the reply! Well I should say, I'm at the end of my Bachelor's in Production Animation, I've always had a knack for Art.

I'm pretty happy with where I am as a concept artist, I'm not a true painter, so I don't see that as my future profession. I'm pretty Max fluent, I've been working on a custom rigtool for Torque (my animators for Wind are playing with the functionality prototype). Animation is pretty much all I've done for the past 5 years, both 2D and 3D, same for modeling. I'm definitely not much of a texture artist, same reason as concept artist.

I guess you can say I'm looking to be a level/mission designer (I dare not say game Designer because that gets you stoned at my school, lol). So knowing how to do everything artistically is very important, even if you only plan on doing a fraction of them in your position.

For years I've learned little bits and bobs of programming, I learned a little C++ to do some Robotics, then Scheme (terrible), then Java throughout highschool, and Visual U-Script.

I don't know my IQ, lol (funny story, my parents had me tested to get into the gifted and talented program in elementary school, I got in, but they won't tell me what I scored to this day). Um, I've been accelerated throughout my schooling (Could have graduated highschool in 2.5 years). I guess you can say I'm a bit of an over achiever, I used to do Science Olympiad, Youth Business Olympics, Game Creation/Programming Camps, Art workshops. I pretty much spend every waking hour thats not with my fiance, doing Art and learning programming.

I agree its going to be a hard road to get the programming down, but I figure if I put my nose in the books I can eventually get proficient, not amazing. =)
