Back again

I have been doing other things for a couple of years
and is now back to GG again.

I have been involved in writing an own engine,
which failed. It's almost impossible as a two
man team to keep development of an engine up to date.
After having to rewrite the render core a number of
times as graphics changed I finally told my self to
stop. That was a good decision I think.

After that I was playing around with (and writing some code)
for another commercial engine.

Now I have been asked by some friends to help with
coding (mostly scripts) for a project with T3D. So
here I am back again as a newbie (The things that I
learned with TGE many years ago are now forgotten and
also not valid with T3D).

As the team I'm helping is only a couple of guys
I have been not only been involved in scripting, but
more and more with modeling and art stuff lately.

My tools are
  • T3D
  • Game Mechanics Kit
  • Sticks and Twigs Environment Pack
  • DTSViewer
  • L3DT
  • Modo 401
  • 3DCoat
  • FL Studio
  • Corel PaintShop Pro
  • Corel Painter
  • Visual Studio .NET 2008

Javier
I'm embarrassed to say that I don't remember you,
but you know.. I'm an old guy :) Give me a hint.

Yes Javier. I have been into making game tech a long
time and finally got to some sort of stop. So now I have
given up that part and will start to make games instead.

What I have found so far working "from the other side of the code"
is how hard it is to make even a simple terrain or stone to look
really good. But hey, its really fun to work with arts and scripts.

ps. Your blogs about building a game community are great

Alienforce
Thanks

TGE Is very different than Torque3D, but Torque3D has much more potential than TGE had.

Yes... I could probably be your father :)
Nice to see young people. I'm 55 so I'm
slow you know :) Its cool when both young
and old can have same interests.

Yes. T3D is really a cool entity in comparison
to the old TGE. I look forward to learn it.

My first goal is to make a descent terrain using L3DT.
I didn't like what I came up with in my first attempts.
The terrain looks OK but I really have problems with
getting the textures like I want them to. The detail texture
always look good but the terrain texture looks awful at
distance, really blurry and stretched. I guess its a matter
of playing with texture resolutions and size.

55 years old! Dang you are old:)

OK..Ok.. Will be 47 in Dec.

I am also moving more into 3D/Art than programming. But I think that is to just keep me happy as I am by trade a mechanical designer.

Will have some pics soon.. From the Old Guys Club....

Welcome back..

Yes. 55 and still learning.

But at least I now climbed down from the high horses
believing that I could do an own engine better than
this one (or at least half as good) - Finally I have come
to insight that I'm just not capable of that.

A bit late in life I has promised my self a restart in this adventure
and go for art and simple scripting (which can be not so simple sometimes I have seen already).

So I'm very thrilled to be a total newbie and nobody starting
with something new and fresh which stimulates my art interest
that I once in my youth (about the time when mud was invented)
was a major interest.

By the way I in fact recognize from the GMK forum (I also use Bullet now )

Daniel
Thanks

Welcome back, Roland. You've got some awesome tools. I believe that working with Torque 3D will be a lot more fun than what it used to be with TGE.

I hope you keep us posted! Can't wait to see your terrain.

And btw.. age is overrated! :)

Thanks Konrad.

Seeing you name I shamefully must admit
that I forgot to list one important tool in my tool list,
and thats your eminent DTSViewer that show the
new T3D DTS models. Of course I recommend this tool
to others also.

(I added it to my list now )

Thanks. You are so nice all of you.

I checked your blog and the latest one
