"Hello all that have been looking forward or thinking about getting your hands on the Torque3D Basic. Come on in and see whats in your future."
It would help, if you haven't read this previous blog please do so, it will show you the progress of pushing Torque3D to it limits which I have yet to do and it lead to this scene. www.garagegames.com/community/blogs/view/17567
Machine Stats:
2.69 P4 Forced Single Core
Forced Single 9600GT
Torque3D set to basic lighting and a full re-start, a little info on the scene, I was preparing a scene big enough so I would see the difference when lod on the fortress was done and in place and in the process I noticed that WOW its still running smoooooooth. Thinking about the upcoming release of pureLight I was day dreaming about Basic Lighting and Flight Sims and the possible wasted CPU/GPU with Advanced Lighting on a fly by.
So I decided to see what the Basic Lighting has to offer on this scene and then add the layer of pL in my mind, before I could, I was blown away by the look of the basic lighting it was so good I had to make a few videos so you could dream too!
3,507,000 Polys And Counting...
The editor is responding smoothly no GUI delays, reaction time just like you had nothing but the starter level loaded IMPRESSIVE INDEED!

How I see it, spikes to 90+ fps before FrapsVC. (I MUST ENABLE MY CORES! MY CARDS! I have not yet seen how it performs running wide open!)

Weee! Here is where pureLight would be most noticeable flying building to building The Fortress Tops will have a bake self shadow, if you have seen the last Weee! video, you can tell that Advanced Lighting is way too cool and if pL can provide the same look without the performance hit older computers will be able enjoy the game too, minus the ability to change the time of day in game, something you could live with or work around!

Infact if your thinking of performance with lightmaps, disabling sun castshadows gives a nicer look than BL. It's those realtime shadows that eat performance, especailly on a lower spec box.

I was about to say "how do you get your terrain to fog when postfx doesn't work in BL" --- and then remembered that your "mountain" isn't "terrain", it's a mesh. I think the fogging is getting fixed.Infact if your thinking of performance with lightmaps, disabling sun castshadows gives a nicer look than BL. P.S. I love the ambient wind sound you have! Where did you get that (or was it recorded yourself)?

@Mikael I would love to try this but I think its really based on the size of the scene and how much Ram is available to hold two copies I'm sure it has been done before but maybe not on huge polysoup.@Steve thanks for the info I will try that combination later tonight.

It's only feasible if your scene is small enough or if you got lots of VRAM hanging around. I did something like that in TGEA, but only kept two lightmaps around (night and day) but that won't get you a good transition.

Couldn't you sequence a series of PL shadowmaps, and fade between them during the cource of a day?

Thought I would mention this site as I find it quite useful with it's many branches: envato.com/ ..it is a site network that has many marketplaces.
I bought stuff from here earlier today: audiojungle.net/ ..and I have bought flash files from the "flashden" branch of that Envato network. ..I deposited some money in 1 of their sites and that money follows me to every one of their marketplace sites.
- Cheap files, nice sites, ftw!
geez, I sound like I work for them :X
