GDNet: Weekly Sitrep

In Boston

I'm sitting in my friend's living room right now, where I'll be crashing out when we're both not attending the Independent Games Conference East on Thursday and Friday. It was a nice drive up, the weather - which has been rainy and cold for the past 5 days - let up and only spritzed on me here and there, so that was nice. Because I'm still all about the fact that I can track my progress via GPS in my phone, I've uploaded a track of my trip and detailed a few adventures I had over on my personal blog.

Don't forget that while I'm at IGC East I'll be tweeting a lot of pertinent need-to-know (well okay, good-to-know) information over at the GDNet twitter feed. You can also get some highlights off of the GDNet Facebook page, but that's not as easily updated on the go from my phone so I won't be posting much other than links back to this blog with highlight entries.

More Mod Updates

dbaumgart agreed to moderate the Visual Arts forum, taking over for Salsa who has gone MIA in the past few months. I couldn't be happier and he's certainly a great person to talk to if you're an artist. Thanks again Dave!

Two more old moderators adventuredesign and Timkin were retired from Mod status. The total count of mods now hovers around 48 - I don't have the listing with me right this moment.

We're seeking a replacement for Sneftel, who's stepping down from the Consoles, PDAs, and Cell Phones forum. If anyone wants to nominate themselves or another drop me an email, PM or just post in the comments.

New Resources

Thanks to our buddies over at Music4Games.net for sharing these interviews with us!* Behind the Music of X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Interview with composer Paul Haslinger

* Behind the Music of inFAMOUS - Interview with SCEA Music Team

* Behind the Music of Indiana Jones and The Staff of Kings - Interview with composer Gordy Haab

* Exporting C++ functions to Lua - This article shows a way to achieve type safe interaction between C++ and Lua. By utilizing the Boost::FunctionTypes library, we’re able to automatically detect the number and types of the parameters in the exported function, making the procedure for registering a C++ function as simple as a single function call with a name and a function pointer

* The Race for a New Game Machine - We review a book on the race to make the bestest game-console CPU in the world. Is this a worthy followup to "The Soul of a New Machine", or is the book lacking in soul?

I love the independent game scene so I'm excited to read more about this.

By the way I must admit I love using google maps and making new markers on my person maps to show people where I am
