More work done!

In my last blog I left off with:

Sadly, I didn't nab a new screen-shot, but I've re-arranged the cars and placed fences and other props. You'll have to accept a re-do. :(
So I did the first thing I could think of. I attacked the map with a bundle of new DTS props.
The weird thing is, I find whenever I fly away from an area to check on another part of the city, then fly back, sometimes props are missing.
At first, one of my fence posts went away. I was kind of irritated, but I simply replaced it and flew to another part of the map, only to find other props missing there as well!
I don't know if this an issue or what, but since I've run into much worse bugs before, I think its mostly fine.

Thats the chain link fence I finished skinning today. Sadly, I never did find a tutorial on how to create alpha transparencies. I learned by almost an accident one day.
Oh, and ignore my one sided building in the background. :)
I felt the chain link fences were nice, so I also skinned up another fence:

Personally, I didn't even see uses for fences until I could use them.
Then I found myself placing them by the dozens!
Maybe I should be making more fences?
Lastly, I got around to creating a very simple prop to act as rebar.

I thought it was ok, but its not really hitting the spot.
Either the wrong color, or the 64x64 texture isn't working.
On that note, I've also got to finish up my pinkish looking car.
More than likely it would be best to create a new texture for the cement blocks, and make it very crackly to fit the look of 'falling apart'. Then go one step further and create cracked decals to place under the DTS rubble.
Maybe go even farther and make the pink car more of a red...
Really thinking about it, I might have 'a lot' of artwork to do in the near future. Maybe I should step away from programming for a bit and get this other stuff out of the way?
Well now that I've blogged my thoughts on what I'm doing and got a few pictures to show I've actually been working this week, I'm headed to sleep.
Thanks for reading!

Really liking the look of this, and definitely looking forward to seeing more.

I've been playing so much Left 4 Dead that I feel like I need to run for the safe house seeing that first screen shot. Everything is lookin' good, I had to really look to see that flat building.

Very nice work. Keep it up.

Nice fences, particularly the transparent chain-link one. I take it projectiles do go through it but the player can't?

Just a thought, but how about making the pink car a rusty car instead?Nice fences, particularly the transparent chain-link one. I take it projectiles do go through it but the player can't?

Nice artwork... Those roads need some serious repairs ;)

@Ted: I hope you mean the intentional damage, else you mean I need to fix some textures.

@Steve: Yeah, I put the collision boxes only on the thicker metal bars on the chain link fences. Bullets will go through.@Ted: I hope you mean the intentional damage, else you mean I need to fix some textures.

@Dave: I found that if you leave a side (eg the bottom) of a Collision colmesh open (in other words not a sealed mesh) then the remaining faces still work as collision for the player/AI (not sure about vehicles) but not for projectiles or raycasts. Technically I suppose that this is a bug, but it's one I've found useful to exploit on transparent objects like windows - the player/AI can't jump out but they can fire through.

Though I'd sleep better at night with some solid code rather than a bug for something that is potentially major.
...but its certainly worth a try! Thanks.

@Steve: Oh really? I think I'll tamper with that and see what I can learn.Though I'd sleep better at night with some solid code rather than a bug for something that is potentially major.

That first image had me thinking: "I would be able to kill the tank quite easily there". :)
