Softimage Mod-Tool 7.5 released

by James Brad Barnette · 04/20/2009 (7:18 am) · 11 comments

You can get the latest Softimage Mod Tool, built on Softimage 7.5. Use all of the great modeling and animation tools in Softimage 7.5 for making you game content. There is a Mod-tool pro version out now too but I think that it is just limited to use for XNA creator club. Waiting to here back from Autodesk on that one. But if you have a Creators club membership and are using torque X this PRO version is free for you. It is under the partner download on the creators club website. The only feature that is missing from Mod-Tool 7.5 is the Unfold3D add-on but there are other options for this

You can pick it up here:

Here's the URL...

It can't be used at all with GG's products can it? I've used it extensively in the past for Valve's Source, but wasn't aware of any applications for Torque.

However; isn't the 'MOD'tool a non-commercial program? Meaning you cannot use it to create commercial content for resale....and the only real use of the 'MOD'tool is for hobbyist and product evaluation???

I keep hearing about this "MOD" tool....and an exporter. Is it or isn't it true, that the MODtool is NOT for Commercial use? With a license, certainly it seem worthwhile to use the program and exporter...but.

I mean, right at the link's page, I see this,"Free for Non-Commercial Game Creation and Modding"...meaning this program[MOD version] is not usable commercially, unless you license it.

It's like using Hammer for Diff construction: sure, you can do it...is it really worth the time spent, if you can't use it commercially, or run on the down-side of risk management??

The "pro" version of modtool can be used for commercial usage, if you are producing something for XBox Live:

Quote:
Softimage Mod Tool 7.5 Pro is a version of Softimage Mod Tool with a commercial End User License Agreement specifically for XNA Creator’s Club Premium members. This allows XNA Creator’s Club Premium members to produce commercial games for Microsoft® Xbox LIVE® online service of community games.

As Jaimi mentioned, XNA Creator’s Club Premium members ($99/year?) get Softimage Mod Tool 7.5 Pro for free (i.e. included as part of their Creator’s Club Premium membership).

Softimage Mod Tool 7.5 Pro can be used to produce content for commercial games made using the XNA framework. (Which should include games built using TorqueX 2d and TorqueX 3d.)

yeah Epic fail. had about 3 hours sleep I have about a week and a half left on this project and I think that I might get about 24hrs sleep between now and then. Deadlines suck.

I'm reasonably sure that Autodesk would give GG the same kinda deal on the mod tool pro thing if they asked them. $99 a year for Torque3D licensees

$99 a year was the money you used to pay, even before this tool was among the subscription advantages, so I dont think the payment has something to do with it.

However, I agree, seems like a good spot for GG to intent an agreement.
