BUCCANEER HITS THE NUMBER 1 SPOT !!!

by Harvey Greensall · 04/07/2009 (2:46 pm) · 17 comments

Well, what a couple of weeks it's been. After a seriously amazing week at GDC, we got back into a crazy week of getting ready to release on Direct 2 Drive, and this weekend actually went to Number 1 on Steams Indie 'Top Sellers' list. At the time of writing this we're currently number 2 on the list, and number 6 on Direct 2 Drives Indie 'Top Sellers' as the game's on preorder there ready to get cracking at any time now.

Buccaneer was made completely in the awesome TGEA, with the only main code addition being the GameSpy SDK just to enable us to patch the game and also has made it much easier for people to host games without having to port forward etc.

So, cheers to all who have bought and played the game. You never know, at this rate, we may even get the chance to buy Torque 3D and spend the next year or two making something completely different !! 8)

I would like to know how good is selling the game on Steams for educational purposes, I think Buccaneer is one of the most serius Indie Games I've seen recently and just like the other blog shares the Xbox sales information to help this comunity members I would like to know that information for this game (if that information can be shared of course!) in one way or another to make an idea. Thanks =)

Cheers All! Yes it's been a nice reward for over 2 years of hard, hard work 8)

No Worries Randy, I get the picture, it went down a treat anyhow Sir! I've just about got my voice back.

Sorry Edison, we're contractually obliged not to divulge Sales figures etc. I guess that's why you don't see any out there in the public domain. It's selling nicely though...Lets just hope it continues...

After all this I take my hat off to anyone who finishes and releases a title, what a journey. We could write a book about it....One thing's for sure though, you can make the coolest game, getting people to actually know it exists...Now THAT'S the tricky part...something we've quickly realised...

It aint over yet... 8)

Grats, though i have to say this..

Your meta score looks kind of bad :o or is it just me ?

Probably helped you lowered price to half aswell hehe :)

Anyways, i dont own the game, i read about it, and well, it wasnt my style of game.

Btw, getting a game released on Steam is said to be extremly hard as Steam only offers it on games that already has a publisher (?) according to what i read anyways.

Cheers Guys, correct, no mac version as it's in 1.7 ... Maybe we'll port to 1.8 later in the year and release on Mac though...Next stop, fully working on 360 in the goal though.

If you look at the Metascore page, we've a coupe of critics that just didn't get it. It really hurt our score. There are plenty of 80%, 75%s, 70%s on the metacritic page and loads of great reviews out there, even got an 83.5% this week. Not bad for a two man team stuck in 'Das Boot' neither of which can code.

Yeah, getting a game released at all is extremely hard work...We were just in the right place at the right time...

It's all worth it though. Beats working for a living.

Bought It. Played It. And unfortunately if I don't stop playing it now I am going to get fired. :)

Awesome game ... nice polished look and feel to it ... the controls took a little getting used ... but it is a lot of fun to play ... Pirates are always a blast. :)

Awesome job guys.

...and probably couldn't produce the same results in a game if their lives depended on it. Critics, gotta love'em!

I watched the demo. Great looking game graphically plus it looks fun to play. Can't wait to try it!! Way to get on the map "noobs" (lol)!!!!

Great work guys, yeah I got the game and its quite nice. I really like that sort of era of ship games. Started with High Seas Trader and then Sea Dogs which I thought was great.

Steam I always thought would be a good option for Indie games?
