3/19/09 IRC Hour

Greetings Community! Every 3rd Thursday of a month we have an IRC Hour for the community. Due to the popularity of last month's session and the buzz surrounding GDC, we are having 2 IRC Hours in March!

Where Was It?:
Server: irc.maxgaming.net
Channel: #GarageGames

When Was It?:
3:00pm PST
(6:00pm EST)

When Was It, Again?:
3:00pm PST
(6:00pm EST)
I feel the need to post this twice for some people who keep forgetting.

What Was It?: IRC Hour is a chance for the community to have real-time talks with GarageGames employees and our site admin, David Montgomery-Blake. We will be using the GarageGames IRC channel hosted by MaxGaming OnLine.

What Was It Not: Debugging other people's code, marathon one-on-one help sessions, soap-box rants, etc.

TheAgenda:

GDC Announcements (Video Stream Schedule)
Torque 3D Updates (World Editor and others)
iTGE Indie Beta Release
iTGB 1.2

Community Suggestions: None yet. Feel free to post anything you want here in this blog or the feedback thread.

To learn more about IRC Hour, provide suggestions, and get the transcripts, please go here: 2009 IRC Hour Discussion Thread.

I won't be missing this one, especially since I got the time wrong last time. The tree can wait till after to come down.

hey Mike,
can you post some more instructions on how to get into the irc channel? is there a link so you can view it on the web or do you have to download some client?

Sure.

We no longer have a built-in IRC Java applet on our site, so it's up to a participant to grab their own client.

There's the traditional mIRC, but that's not my preferred client. Browser based plug-ins are pretty popular right now. For instance, I use Chatzilla on Firefox.

MAC users are highly recommended to use Colloquy, which is a client you can run from the machine itself.

If you really don't want to download an irc client, there's a java based web one here: http://www.jpilot.com/jirc/demo1

But given how much text there tends to be scrolling past onscreen during these things, I'd still recommend getting a normal client so you can have a larger window for it.

http://www.mibbit.com has a nice browser based irc client, as well.

Yeah, the tree is still up. I'm trying to make sure it gets taken down before I go on vacation, which is tomorrow. I'm afraid that if I don't do it soon I'm going to have an Easter tree, and at that point I'd probably just leave it up and call it a wedding tree.

Thanks for the Chatzilla link, Michael, I'm probably not the only person in the world who isn't too "au fais" with this irc lark .

(if au fais means what I think it does ... not too au fais with the French language either...)

Is there a log posted afterwards somewhere? Have some stuff to get done, but would be interested in reading through it afterwards.

Disregard, seen the link at the bottom of the post. He he.

wow i just read the hole log as i have missed the IRC Hour yet again because of work. :P the pricing looks good for the pre order i think i will get my hands on it if i get my money ins soon that is i hoping pay will come tomorrow.

i know the irc hour is over but i like to ask one question here. is the editor for the Wetness & Precipitation blog you posted is it fairly easy to use and what will that look like or is there no editor or it and its just a 1 click add on to your game. could we also add that in for a weather system so its not on all the time and it comes on ether a certain time of the day or even month for your game time or random. also could we make it come on after a game scene or even make it part of the scene.

basically how flexible is it a picture of the editor would be now now that you guys have posted some pictures of the editors. you try to get us a videos of all the editors would be nice. :P i just want to get that question out be for the pre order as i really want to have a good editor or something for that rain or what ever you want to call it. :P

@Stefan - No worries. That's why I post the transcripts. If you still want to throw in your 2 cents, you can continue the discussion about the latest IRC Hour in the discussion thread.

Yeah, I wish I could have been apart of that, but 3:00PDT is too early for me. I had hoped to see if there was any information on upcoming updates to TGB. I'm still trying to learn how to use that program.
