GarageGames.com Site Update: Feb. 12, 2009

by Jacob Fike · 02/12/2009 (5:23 pm) · 21 comments

Update 2/18/2009: The next update won't be happening today, but instead will go out later this week.

We've pushed out a small update a little earlier than expected, but don't worry, we'll still be making a big update next week.

Stuff that happened in this update:

  • Login: The login form can now be used with email/password or username/password. You don't have to click extra links to log in with your old username.
  • Welcome, Whatsyername: You might have noticed (if you are logged in) that the header now greets you. This is to help make it more obvious that you are logged in, and it's just polite.
  • Settings: You can now change your email address by editing your profile instead of under Settings. Changing your password should be more straight-forward now. Also, it's gotten a little design love.
  • Edit Profile: The edit profile form has also been cleaned up a bit and now includes your email address as well as an option to display your email on your profile (off by default).
  • Dates: You should now be seeing dates and times in your local timezone.
  • [li] Editing: You should no longer be presented with an empty form field when editing a blog, comment, or thread.
Stay tuned next week for another update, and keep the feedback coming.

Well done. I am glad to see the functionality of the old version of the site is being integrated into the new one. So looks great and works great.

Keep up the good work!

I have a request concerning the cleaning-up of the profile page:
The Talent Summary refuses to linebreak/<br>.
Profile talent summaries appear as 1 long sentence.
- It would be nice if they could use the markup-lite as well!

Thx and Cheers

Quick question, would it be possible to clean up the blogs so that it seperates those that work at Garage Games from those that don't? I enjoy reading all the blogs but it currently makes it very hard to find the ones from Garage Games. It's how I kinda keep up on the news for the products.
Thanks!

Great stuff. I second/third what Eb said.

Also, are usernames staying now? I remember reading somewhere that they were going to get axed eventually in favour of just email login.

Apostrophes tax the server a little harder than regular logins Phillip. You'll see a small bill come from us once a month.

Can you add in location as required on permissions and then make them searchable so we can find Torque'rs near us?

Feature Request: filter search results by date.
Feature Request: searching for anything that contains even a part of my phrase

Feature Request: forum/board features that are standard and found in (for free) phpBB or myBB or simple Machines Forums for example.

Just logged back in after a long hiatus.

Like the new look a lot, but can't seem to find the "jobs" section.

Is it no longer here or am I just looking in the wrong place.

Jim, you will find it under forums-->jobs.

Agreed! Searching now isn't a whole lot easier than before because recent results sometimes show up pages later than old ones that have no relevance anymore.

I assume this will be added sooner or later, but please make it sooner!

Just throwing this out there:

Could you guys possibly make a "All My Dreams Come True" button on the site somewhere? Preferably 1 inch from the left margin and a constant 6 inches from the bottom of the screen -- for easy access.

That'd be great, thanks.
