Bounty and stuff..

by Ben "Djaggernaut" Chavigner · 04/17/2006 (9:31 am) · 12 comments

Hi,

I was focused on school stuff these last weeks and I didn't had so much time to work on anything else.

It's holidays and I finished Oblivion and HOMM5 demo, so what should I do... well, bounties of course!
Maybe it's not paying as much as a contract, but at least, it can be some useful work for the community.

So here's my progress on an environement tile set. Normally it "can" work in iso, side, top depending on the chosen effect.
Each element will have its own alpha and can be put wherever you want.

It will also include some kind of -tree generator- for photoshop. So you can edit branches and leaves to create customs trees.

I'm enjoying doing this so it's all good ;)

Well, I hope some people will find it useful.
Please, you can ask here for some stuff you'd like to see in this set.

On a sidenote, I did a lot of video (for school and my clan):

Very nice stuff Ben!

I got a look at Oblivion as well, what did you think of it?

I am trying to replicate their billboard based tree foliage system within TGE, not sure its gonna work fro a bunch of reasons, but its worth a shot.

Thanks for comments! :)

@Todd: Oblivion is the evil, you buy it one day and you can't stop playing for days...

Yes the trees (and globally the whole graphics) are part of the immersive feeling. I'd say they've gone more in the heroic side than fantasy. The architecture is simple (medieval based) wich makes it a lot more realistic.
Good luck on reproducing those trees! ;)

@Tim: well the videos are still WIP and are just short movie ;)

But I have a more complete work (less interesting graphically) I did for my art school.
There is a real concept behind it... but it will be hard to explain in english.
Globally the idea is that the crowd is a precarious shelter.
If you ever want to see I already have it on ftp: http://www.wdbrothers.com/crd.zip

The trees in Oblivion were all based off SpeedTree. And frankly I think it proves it's a very worthwile tech when used properly. I haven't gotten sick of just walking over the landscape at 12-15fps admiring the scenery.

Oh and your work looks phenom as usual Djagg!

@Wedge: Speedtree?? that's crazy o_O Indeed, it's very impressive. That would explain the variety of the forest. (would have been hard to do manually). Well, maybe it's been long I haven't checked Speedtree website, it has probably been upgraded since then ;)

@Don: well I have school and a big contract starting in june. Maybe I have some time for very short contract if this is what's you're meaning. (that's why I do bounties btw).
