Plan for David "RM" Michael

by DavidRM · 01/03/2003 (1:18 pm) · 84 comments

Work on Paintball Net began again last night with our first 2003 team meeting. Very little was accomplished in December. But it was December. Very little ever gets accomplished in December...

Dug continues to work on our player database server. We plan to have at least a simple version of the player database running before the end of January.

Dave Astle is working with the player model data so we can determine where the paintball hit the player.

Lars is creating a library of map objects for use in making new match maps.

David Franson is working on the new player model, though we're going to need to find someone else to do the actual animating (running, jumping, etc.) as he is starting a new book soon.

Jeff's house caught on fire a week ago. He and his family are fine, but he won't be able to work on the project for a while.

And I'm going to start implementing the stores and player locker for the Ready Room.

More news as it happens...

Have fun!

I almost feel sorry for shroom...hvpb is going to become a ghost town when PBN2 takes off...I guess he's just lucky RM didn't sue him or somethin for makin money off RM's idea.

From what I hear and understand the other 2 versions of PBN will still continue to do very well, All though Shrooms game seems to be getting out of hand, ViperX's game has had many changes on the table already in place. All though They both worked on this version of PBN togather at one point and thne split and made two different games. Shrooms seems to have alot more players, But ViperX's seem to be more stable. Ahh who knows what "RM" has instore for everyone. I do bet that it will cost more money to play than the old PBN. But as time passes I will continue to play ViperX's game people are just more easy going and not all that mucj foul language on his game. Admins seem to be more mature than Shrooms. But this is my opinon and we are intittled to our own opions, (I think). But time will tell. Heh these are only games some people take way too far! Still wondering why I got banned on Shrooms game but who knows.

I was wondering what you mean by "mature" in the statement that admins on VX's are more mature? I mean, this is a game, you know? I play it because I have fun. Anyone who knew me in pbn or still knows me now realizes that. I like to mess around with people, joke, play with people's heads, all that kind of stuff, does that make me less mature? I would define immature/less mature as someone who comes on and mostly picks fights with people, always calling them names or just looking to, in a way, make the game a less fun experience for everyone else. And, true, both games have their couple players that are like it, but the only time you really see that is when the players from both games get together and try to discuss the one thing that drives their respective lives...HVPB. Then we discover that some people know the secrets to pleasuring dogs, or that one's mother likes to get busy when she's got the free time. So yeah, enough about that...
RM why have you remained mum on the payment structure for PBN2? Will it be like artifact of old where you pay an insane amount of money for the first level and then a lower amount for each subsequent level? Or will it be like the new plan for artifact, where you pay every few months? I mean, I wouldn't mind shelling out $25-$35 a year for an enjoyable game, but $10 a month or more is just too much for me, and I'm sure many other players too.
Here's my question of the day part... How many different player models will there be? Since you can see the person and all, it would be nice to have quite a few different ones to give everyone a unique feel. And what about being able to create like a design for your team's colors so your team would have the same jackets on and you could tell who is a good guy and who is an enemy? Or am I way off base here and you got something else in mind?
Final thing: I was reading the old posts to see when old PBN'ers first started chiming in, and saw that you had hoped for a beta back in early fall...I know that your guesstimate means basically nothing, but could we get another just to tide us over???

Thanks!!

Looks great so far DavidRM and Co. I haven't read many posts but has the issue of canning been addressed? And also what about bots? I hope this game is as great as the first...just remember not to make it too difficult, like someone else said about SNES and FPS, sometimes simplicity is key...gets us addicted and makes it a great game. Keep up the great work and have a great year.

is this game free or do you have to pay an amount a month in real solid hard cash.

OK...no squabbling about other people's games in *my* plan posts... ;-)

Paintball Net's payment structure hasn't been decided on, but there will be one. It won't be a completely free game.

heh I didn't look around the net that much for online games and by the time I did it was to late the old one was already off line and the new one was being created. So what can I say.

I wouldn't be down with a montly payment thing. I don't have a credit card or anything to pay with. I got a job and all so I got $$ for level ups nowadays, but only by cash. I don't dig credit anyway. I hope it will be something reasonable and easy. Maybe a free user :P

do you need to pay real money just to give your self a level up, or is it just money in the game.

Even though I do appreciate the publicity, I would please ask that any talk regarding the *other* games do stay out of David's plans. We are here to discuss PBN2, not to argue about who has better admins or what is more stable as we all know the truth *hehe* :) -- Just out of professional courtesy and respect. After all, DavidRM did help Shroom and I while we were struggling with our clones.

Hope things go better for you in the new year David, well faster anyway. :) Take it easy.

Taylor...Yet another example from PBN. Back then, $10 HAD to get to RM for you to get a level, but it could get there however you wished. You could send it yourself, and all it cost you was the $10 and like the 2 cents for the stamp (Yes, this was wayyy back in the day...It took 3 months for the letter to get there because the horses were so slow)....Or you could pay with game money. That cost under 10k when I first started PBN and over 40k when PBN finished. At least I think that's what it was, it was a long time ago so i can't be totally sure anymore. So as long as this one has game money, I think both of those will still be options. But, I don't think RM will accept game money for levels because he's not earning any money that way...
Go ahead RM, make my day and prove me wrong once again!

One thing to remember is....when you are paying game money for a level up...you are just paying someone else to send in the money for you.

When the game first comes out...noone is going to have any money....so you wouldn't think this would be a viable option for a while.
