Kickstarter Live for 3 Step Studio!
In my blog last week, we unveiled the Kickstarter campaign for 3 Step Studio. I'm excited to announce that the Kickstarter page is now live and can be found here!

The Kickstarter page contains many more details about 3 Step Studio. Below is the Kickstarter section from my previous blog in case you missed it:

Why We Need Your Help...
We’ve embraced the open-source community with the recent announcements of Torque 3D and Torque 2D under the MIT license. We support these efforts with service work and with projects like 3 Step Studio.3 Step Studio is also our primary client for Torque 2D, driving development of our 2D technology this year. The improvements are incredible, which you’ll see in the coming updates to iTorque 2D and Torque 2D, and the pending release of Torque 2D MIT. The contributions from the open-source community will be folded into the product, and feature requests from 3 Step Studio will drive development from GarageGames. It’s a mutually beneficial development relationship that will build up two great products.
We need you to help us:
- Fund development. Your contribution will help us push toward release of the initial product and templates and continue to build upon that base. We want to provide as many templates and features as possible. We’ll have some great rewards!
- Make it free. We don’t want price to stop anyone from making their game a reality.
- SPREAD THE WORD! We need the power of our community to help this thing go viral! Please do not spam, but we encourage you to talk about it in forums and chat, and to share the news with your friends on Facebook and Twitter!
Please Back Us!
Please check out the Kickstarter page and back the project. You're welcome to voice your support here as well, but we encourage you to add your (positive :-)) comments to the Kickstarter page itself to help grow the project.
Thanks in advance for your support!

OK, you guys are 1/3 of the way through your campaign and still <1% of your goal. I think its time to make the rewards more enticing :)

@Bruno, a good start would be to make them available outside of the US!

True but I was referring to things within GG's control :)

We have to get the word out to these people. It seems to me that if we get a featured article on IGN, more of this demo will be reached.

Are there any plans to announce the 3SS kickstarter on Kotaku, IGN or any of the other large gaming sites? As was mentioned, sure, it's nice to get coverage on developer sites, but existing devs aren't the target audience for something like this. New devs, upcoming devs or just plain old video game enthusiasts who may want to try their hand at making a game are the target; people who don't have experience with development at all. We have to get the word out to these people. It seems to me that if we get a featured article on IGN, more of this demo will be reached.

@Gene - Yes, our PR folks reached out to all of those channels. We are actually running some advertising on gaming sites to try and draw in some more of the non-developer crowd.

I'll keep trying to spread the word but I feel as though there isn't enough that I can do.
Very frustrating.

As frustrating as it is for us in the community to see a great idea like this not do as well as we know it deserves, I know that it's even more so for you guys.I'll keep trying to spread the word but I feel as though there isn't enough that I can do.
Very frustrating.

(If that last link didn't work, it's the Total Annihilation people talking next week at Bungie Studios.)

One of the frustrating things for me is that I coincidentally live in a town with several successful high-profile Kickstarter projects. And the teams talk about them from time to time. But I don't know how this can help if at all.(If that last link didn't work, it's the Total Annihilation people talking next week at Bungie Studios.)

I backed the project, but I think this tool fits in an odd space. You're asking for a fairly sizeable ammount of money to fund the development of something you'll give away. And it's targeted at the lowest skilled game makers. I am just not sure that crowd is going to be the same group to fund a free product at the kind of money you're looking for. I am really concerned about the campaign. But I wish you all the best and hope it comes out well.

I went out to back the project and I see the funding was canceled. I was looking forward to seeing this completed. Hopefully this doesn't mean the project is canceled.

IS there any official statement on this yet?

@Tony - Yes, 3 Step Studio is suspended indefinitely. We are going back to the drawing board on this one.

Eric, got ya... Just wondering if there was more to it, but I can respect you guys want to rethink things. This project deserved to be funded. As many have said being a free product may be the issue, good luck with the think tank and hope something great come from it.

Sometimes what you learn about something after failure is more valuable than if it had succeeded.

Charging for templates such as a platformer, rpg type at a few dollars, 10 - 20$ USD is no more then what xbox or playstation charges for new downloadable content for games. I've got about 50+ hours behind 3SS, and its a great solution to get something done quickly. I'd definitley pay for more templates, and even art packs. I think the possibilities could be endless with a product as awesome and easy as this.

I wish and hope development occurs and continues with this. This is a genius engine. Instead of a kickstarter, what would be great is possibly throwing 3SS out there as free along with the basic templates black jack, tower defense etc. Then charge for other templates. This way it gives everyone a demo of what they can do with just the starter templates and how easy it is, then they will be more interested in purchasing other templates. I came upon your products today and I must say how interested I am! I really hope that something will come of 3 Step Studio, eventually. Amazing idea! Good luck.
