THIS.. IS.. TORQUE! - Vote for your favorite entry!

Bitgap Games' THIS.. IS.. TORQUE! screenshot contest is over! Everyone who is a licensee of any Torque product can vote for a favorite entry until the 25th of November.
I'd like to express my thanks to everyone who has contributed art to this contest. My goal was to show everyone around what Torque is capable of, and I think that - in the very short time frame of the contest - you guys have managed to make some jaws drop.
I also want to apologize because the entire contest was on for only about five days. It was just not enough to prepare with an entry for many of you. I am confident that the success of this contest will pave a road to more contests in the future.
Thank you once again for all the entries.
Keep in mind that only your very first vote will be counted would you cast several votes. To review the prizes of the competition, please visit the contest thread.

Thank you for taking the time to vote.
Feel free to continue discussing entries in this thread.

7, 15, 19, 22. Probably 19 as my favorite. I was hoping I might pick up a couple votes, but since I'm clearly out of the running I might as well cast a vote somewhere.

..considering there was only 25 entries, I don't think it would be odd for me to give everyone who entered, a license to Doit!. Do you guys ?
- I have some significant improvements for Doit! coming in the next weeks(when time allows me to publish the changes).
//Notice:
If you already have a Doit! license..then keep this one as a spare! ..if you can't use the license for any reason, then I'll allow you to give it to someone who can use it. **Just be sure to communicate with me about that**. Thanks for entering everyone!
(You guys will get the next version of Doit! that will be out in a week or so. Please E-mail me so that I have your contact information as so you can be alerted to when the product is ready for you!)

It looks like everyone will receive the prizes that were meant for the third place entry:
I'm also going to give out indie licenses of DTSViewer to everyone who took part in the contest - once voting is over. You will require an active account with Bitgap.Com to receive your prize!
Great move, eb!

www.davidmichaelwright.com/GALLERIES%20SECTION/Galleries.%20Card%20Illustrations...
but in the end I just applied a rusty iron texture at low resolution to avoid it looking tiled and called it the Castle of the Iron Skull instead!
11/21/2009 (3:20 pm)
@Luis, thanks for the feedback. I wasn't happy with the castle texture myself, once the scene was put together. I'm more of a programmer than a texture artist or modeller so there's an over reliance on *cough* content packs in my scene. The skull really needs more modelling work and then uv unwrapping and having a custom stone texture painted something like in this fantasy scene, www.davidmichaelwright.com/GALLERIES%20SECTION/Galleries.%20Card%20Illustrations...
but in the end I just applied a rusty iron texture at low resolution to avoid it looking tiled and called it the Castle of the Iron Skull instead!

@Konrad and Eb - Wow, thats mighty generous of you, thanks guys! Everyone's a winner!

@ Eb, I don't own 3dsmax so can't use doIt. Thankyou tho. You've been very generous. :-)
@ Konrad. I registered on your site using my name. (same as it is here)
Now, for the next contest, I do hope there are more entries. The more scenes the better, even if, like me, you don't think your scene is very good, post it anyway.

@Adrian W: no problem. Am not good at art either - you do seem to have the upper hand on me on modelling though.
@All contestants: Congrats all.

@Konrad: This contest has been a blast for me. It was successful in getting me to work harder and in the process I've learned a few new things that have proven very valuable for my pipeline. Thanks! I can't wait for the next one. :)
@All entrants: Awesome! This community has some great talent. Congrats everyone!

Even though I had a pretty barebones entry, seeing the other entrees and the comments left by fellow torquers is was/is a huge boost to my motivation.
We should have more contests, even if it's only for screenie of the month or something.
Congrats to everyone that entered and thanks again to Konrad and eb!
Edit: @Konrad: I registered on your site under Taintspore.
@eb: I'll fire the info off right away.
WOOHOO!

Nod, was a pretty cool content. Would love to see some GG sponsored ones as well. A great community building project and a great PR project as well to show off Torque. Hoping to be able to throw in some stuff in the future as well :-).

- ..turns out I was very wrong! Good stuff!
Konrad's DTSviewer is great. I use it to preview/verify every DTS or DAE I export.

@Konrad: I did not want to write about the 'Doit! prize to all entrants' too soon as I thought you were going to do something for everyone as well. But I thought to myself; well, he would have posted it by now, he must not be planning on doing it. - ..turns out I was very wrong! Good stuff!

- Good Color Balance
- Nice Model Detail
- Nice matching of content LODs
- Good Scene Complexity and use of little details (loose rocks, papers, varying boxes, crossed cables [maybe too many though], and a poster(?)).
- Made good use of screenshot space (i.e. gave plenty to look at and evaluate)
Possible negatives:
- Curb face may be a bit too bright. Hard to tell w/o more looking
- May be too many cables overhead (already mentioned above)

These are all really nice! my favs were 9, 15 and 22 but if I have to pick just one, I'll go with 15. I love the details. The scene in general seems open and inviting.

@Konrad and Eb: Thank you for the kind gesture, that is very generous of you.

I finally decided I like #9 the best, because it looks like it's built by humans. Decent realism and all that.
(Runner-up in that category: #20, but the weapon makes it look so violent ;)
If there was a fantasy category, I'd flip a coin over #7 and #10.
But #9 it is!
