My boring history:
I've been interested in art in both traditional and digital mediums ever sence I was a child. When I was young I used to examine bitmaps from side scroller games, and character sprites in hopes to learn shading and color techniques. I used to sit on my old 386 and pixel out space ships and explosions. When I first discovered the world of 3D gaming, I wanted to be a part of it. I played with everything from Anim8or and PovRay to TrueSpace and Bryce. I was so absorbed with the art aspect of modeling, that making games had never entered my mind. Every day at school I would sift through the images of other people's work at websites like IRTC.org and email them asking for models. I would examine their craftsmanship so I could learn how to build a better cage.
As it would happen, and as it normally does with those who spend all their time on computers, my interest began to spread to the facets of programming and networking. I started with C++ and bounded from one language to the next...making a VB program here and writing Assembly there...and a couple of years passed where I was doing nothing more than writing scripts for my own Neverwinter Nights modules, and where I only touched a mesh every once in a while to remind myself that my skill had not dwindled.
Some more time had passed, and I had all but given up on art. I had become a programming robot, lifeless and devoid of non-technical inspiration. The 3D world had died in me as violently as it did for MetaCreations when they dumped their creative and wonderful programs such as Bryce and Poser. It would take a spark to ignite my passion once again, and that jolt came from Torque. I saw an ad in a magazine, and decided I'd check it out. Within a week of downloading the demo, I had purchased the source code. Now I am fighting my way back to the top. Climbing the learning curve, so that I may be as comfortable in Torque as I was with PaintShop as a maturing teenage artist.
