Torque X Builder 3D now useless?

by Ian Winter · in Torque X 3D · 08/19/2009 (11:36 am) · 6 replies

The last attempts at using it bore no fruit because although you could load up a project as soon as you tried to do anything it would just outright crash.

Now, it crashes whenever I try to even load a project. I've tried reinstalling the program and have tried creating projects in various locations to see if it had a problem with certain directory structures but it's not that. It just doesn't seem to be able to load even a completely fresh project. I've tried with UAC on and off in Vista and no change.

Has anyone been able to get Torque X 3D Builder to work since the 3.1 release? I switched to this release in the hope it may improve things as the builder was useless at the 3.0 release due to the crashes, but didn't expect this version to be even worse.

Bit cheesed off that this thing has been outright useless and has never worked since I bought it, especially as the Builder source code is closed and we can't just debug and fix problems with it ourselves. The FPS demo wont even compile either in the 3.1 release as it throws an exception when trying to build glow.png at the content processing stage.

I haven't tried loading it since the 3.1 release. I'll check it out.

The problem is that the 3D Builder is compiled against XNA 3.0 and not XNA 3.1, so it seems to work for some, but not for others. It has since been rebuilt and is currently being tested and should release very soon with an updated Torque X 2D/3D.

Hoozah John! Can we safely assume that this is NOT part of the 3.1.0.1 release?

Cheers John. I look forward to it! Hopefully it'll work for me at last!

Alienforce-
Hardware:
- Intel Quad Core 2.83ghz
- ASUS Rampage extreme motherboard
- 4gb RAM
- 2x 1tb Western Digital Drives
- GeForce 280 GTX
- Audigy 2 soundcard

Software:
- Vista 64 Ultimate
- Visual Studio 2008 Pro
- Have tried UAC on and off
- Have tried TorqueX 3D in various locations: default x86 program files dir, C:\TorqueX3D, C:\Dev\Software\TorqueX3D
- Have tried projects in various locations also such as subdirectories of the above, My Documents, Desktop etc
- AVG

Other than that it's only really software that shouldn't effect anything, like Games, Office 2007, Firefox, VMWare etc. I've tried modifying directory security and such to see if that made a difference too but it doesn't seem to be related to anything like that. I suppose I could see if it'll run in a Windows XP VM or something instead but that seems unlikely and is quite a fiddly solution if it does work!
