Creating a Stylized Wood Texture and Bump Effect Using Adobe Photoshop CS3
Hey everyone, I have been a somewhat silent member of the Garagegames community for some time now. I have posted here and there asking questions, and have gotten a lot of help over the years. Since the community has been so kind to me, I figured maybe I'd give a little something back for all the help I've received.
I wrote a small tutorial here on how to create a stylized wood texture in Adobe Photoshop CS3, and then use filters to fake a bump map effect.
Please note that this is not for people looking to make photo realistic textures. It does, however, give an explanation of how to make a decent looking wood texture with nothing but filters in Photoshop for those of you who are looking to hand paint your textures.
With that said, here's the link to it.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy!

I guess I am not familiar with PSDTUTS, is this a community for game developers specifically or is it more of an all-around Photoshop type based community?

It's a community for PS users. Their RSS feed has some great stuff on it!
