First Person Weapon Model?

by XoCluTch · in Torque Game Engine · 08/18/2002 (10:17 am) · 128 replies

Hey,
I am trying to make a change to the engine so when the player is in First Person model of the weapon he see's will differ from the weapon he see's in Third Person or to anyone else looking at him.

Does anyone know how i can perform a engine change like this? I'm pretty good at coding changes to the engine. But this might be a little over my head =P

Any help is Welcome..

Thanks,
XoCluTch

Would anyone be interested to "bountify" this engine-modification? I would love to see seperate 1st person/3rd person weapons, and if others think the same way we might be able to gather interest of someone knowledgable enough to pull this off.

If it's a good one, I would definatly pay $75 for it, and that adds up pretty ok if we're many.

Post here if you're interested. I'll be emailing those of you (if any :p) who do post.

Hey Stefan,

I just recently made 2 models based around this resource. Just figured I'd let you know and drop you the link to the thread.

Hey Max and thanks!

I do like the resource, however it does not fit my needs. It's not suitable if you want third person animations, and I believe the shadow will be incorrect in third person, too. Not sure on that last one.

Anyway, thanks again for watching the thread :)

Hmm... Your having problems with the third person animations? Because with the models I made I have both the first person, and third person weapon playing the same animation from both perspectives. Maybe I misunderstood you, but etheir way I'd be happy to help out with the problem if you like.

About the shadows, I'm actually not so sure if their showing up in third person or not, I'll have to check it out, but I'm pretty sure that with the lighting pack it all works just fine, I just remember reading it somewhere. :P

To get third person animations working, you must syncronize your animations by making the player animate along with the weapon, which is what previous users who don't use this resource would do, and not use an eyeOffSet on their weapon. However this resource supports that, as well as using an eyeOffSet so the weapon looks perfect on the screen too.

The shadow shows up in 3rd person, just incorrectly, it shows the shadow from the high poly first person LOD of the weapon.

Just an update to anyone wanting to try this with T3D. It does work, with a few tweaks. If anyone wants it, I can post the code in the T3D private forums.

@Travis Vroman

If you don't mind, Could you add the T3D version ^^ I'm working on several ideas to get this done, but I can't get the right composition.
