Announcing The Igc07 Garagegames Band Jam

Hey folks! We've been doing a lot of planning for IGC07 and don't think we'd forget to add a lot of fun into it. That said, we bring you the next round in the IGC Indie Band Jam!
What we currently have on deck: one crazy electric guitar, a drum set, bass, some amps and speakers -- oh, and that most important ingredient, plenty of beer.
What we need: songs to play, musicians to play them, and an audience to drink the beer. Are you up to the task? Because there's rocking to be done!
So, who's up for a little jamming and a little planning?

That said, with Kenneth as a third bassist, we've got a full set. Hey, Jeff, any word on your drummer?
I think we're set on guitarists and bassists, though -- so now it's just to song selection, provided the drummer's up for whatever is selected.
Song 1: Ben+Sean, Paul Dana
Song 2: Ben+Sean, Paul Dana
Song 3: Sean+Justin, Kelly Asay
Song 4: Sean+Justin, Kelly Asay
Song 5: Ben+Justin, Ken
Song 6: Ben+Justin, Ken
That's my current recommendation on how we split things up -- it tries to limit the amount of musical chairs we have. Or do the bassists not mind swapping around, if it lets them play with all three guitarists? If so, then we end up in a 1-2-2-3-3-1 split being best for the bassists.
Song selection's up to you guys, of course; there've been a decent number of suggestions so far. So long as it sounds good, I'm all ears. :D

Coolness. I will bring my own bass which i'm willing to share as well if anyone needs to use it. I can bring a guitar as well if need be. How are we doing on amplification and are we going to have maybe a practice night where we can sync up?

Also -- just checked up on the specs, and it looks like Jeff's got a solid guitar amp and a bass amp, but he said that his second guitar amp is a bit on the light side. Ben, Sean, do either of you have another good guitar amp you could bring? Or if you've got a good guitar amp, Ken!
09/24/2007 (11:28 am)
Amps will be provided by Jeff, who has a whole band set-up. The practice will happen in the evening of Associate's Day -- 8ish is the plan, but we'll have to work how that works with the festivities and beer-drinking that night. I'll post to clarify once we've got it all cleared up.Also -- just checked up on the specs, and it looks like Jeff's got a solid guitar amp and a bass amp, but he said that his second guitar amp is a bit on the light side. I was planning on bringing my stage rig as the 2nd guitar setup. It's a pretty nice kit, all tube half stack.

Well, guess that solves that problem. Thanks, Ben! :D

Karen Peal's son Wes has volunteered to drum. I need to call him today to get specifics.

Bass Rig Specs? I'm ok with mixing it up, even pushing the "band" off the stage early so we can have more jam time... =)

Word on the street is you have a nice Boogie head and cabs, what exactly do you play on?

I have a big loud Marshall JCM800 from the mid-eighties. :D

Right now, I have an Ampeg bass amp with a 4X10 speaker cab, but I will probably have something substantially better by IGC. I am researching that purchase right now. I'm thinking Eden. Anybody have thoughts on that?
Bass is a Jazz. Nothing special.
I'm just a meat and potatoes bass player, so no six string bass, no chords, no slapping. Just notes :)
Also, some of our songs clock in at about 2 minutes. I am sure the "jammers" can play more than 6 songs assuming there is not a lot of equipment change up. We would be happy to open with three songs and then close with three songs also. The other guys in the band are pretty stoked about playing, so I don't want to ask them to cut down the number of songs.

Hey, making the crowd suffer through our debut is the price you have to pay for rent of the equipment :DRight now, I have an Ampeg bass amp with a 4X10 speaker cab, but I will probably have something substantially better by IGC. 2/3 correct ;) I've got a TriAxis running into a Simul-Class 2:Ninety powering a Behringer BG412S. The stereo cab doesn't do a whole lot when just using the TriAxis but the angled speakers really shine if you throw some stereo effects on there.
Drool!
I've used an Eden WT-300 (I think that was it) and it was loud as all get out into a 2x10 cab. It could fill any club with just those 2x10. I'm sure it could do some real damage with even more speakers and sound dispersion. I've got a 2x10 top and 1x15 bottom that could also be put to work at the gig if we need more bass stack-age.

@ Sean & Paul
My votes:
1. Born To Be Wild
2. Sunshine Of Your Love
@ Justin & Ken
My votes:
1. Paranoid
2. Rock & Roll All Nite
P.S. Jason (the singer) and I are getting together at my place for a few hours on Wednesday to go over some material. Anything we can have picked out by then will go a long way toward having him prepared. Also, any of you locals are welcome to join us for some rehearsal time. That is happening this Wednesay (the 26th).

Paranoid and R&R All Night are fine with me.

Also -- Justin, any recommendations or preferences for the set you, Sean, and Kelly will be doing? Sean? Likewise?

I'm only good for a couple songs - sorry thought that was clearer in my original email.

Oh, nothing to apologize for! It was probably clear enough -- just been bouncing a lot of Jam stuff since then, and lost track of it. :) Thanks for the heads-up.

Yep, I will play those 2 songs. You need me on bass or guitar? I know both songs on bass, and paranoid on guitar as well. Lemme know :)

On those two, it'd be bass -- Justin and Ben will take guitar. But you know, seeing as Sean and Kelly could use another guitar for their set, if you'd like to chime in there...? That'd be a good way to get some more songs in, if you're up for it.

Tune down half step
1. Paranoid
2. Sunshine Of Your Love
3. Rock And Roll All Nite (KISS were already tuned down 1/2 step so this is the original key)
4. Mother
These songs are do-able at their originally recorded pitch
1. Born To Be Wild
2. Johnny B. Goode
3. Takin' Care Of Business
4. Hard To Handle
5. Cumbersome
Other keys
1. Twist And Shout (this one we did with the first chord on C which I think is a whole step down from the Beatles version)
For the sake of simplicity, I say we just do everything tuned down 1/2 step to minimize the amount we have to think about it. In that case, if we do Twist And Shout it will *look* like it is only down half step in terms of playing position since we would already be tuned down a half step.
We *need* people to pick their other songs so Jason can start practicing them.
I'm also willing to fill in more on guitar if we need too, or if Ken doesn't want to do two other songs on guitar. I can rock and roll all nite, but not so much on the party every day part...

Jason (singer) and I got together tonight and went over the songs listed in this thread. Seems like a good average is to tune everything down a half step. We went over all the songs listed in the thread but these are the ones that seem most do-able.Tune down half step

2. Sunshine Of Your Love
