Texture Atlas for DIFs?
by Mitovo · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 04/17/2014 (7:12 pm) · 2 replies
Basically...
Is it feasible, or recommended, to create a Texture Atlas sort of set up for DIF interiors? I'm considering using that kind of an approach, in order to keep texture sets better organized, less loading to do, etc, but I'm not sure if it would cause any issues, say with light-mapping, or something like that.
Anyone who can give some feedback or advice on this?
Thanks :)

Thank you for taking the time to write that response.
I do know Blender, quite well, and intend to use it regardless. I am aware of and have used T3D. I'm aware it's the latest, greatest, officially supported by GG, and so on.
However, a personal project I'm currently working on is utilizing TGEA. Thus, my question was about the feasibility of using a texture atlas for DIFs with that engine. Your response - good-intentioned as I'm sure it was - doesn't really help my situation.
Again, saying this as politely as can be conveyed in text, if you're going to take the time to answer a question, please at least answer the question being asked.
Thanks :)

Stay away from DIF. Use Blender to create buildings and shapes. Export them to collada(.dae). Blender is free and utterly nasty awesome. You get something that can almost match Max 3D for free.
Here:

You won't regret it, the time spent learning this tool is worth every penny/second/minute/hour...
if you use TGEA then:
SWITCH to Torque 3D MIT and learn Blender.
