You'd have to be mad to buy individual licenses for Adobe and Autodesk products are they are crazily expensive (especially Adobe stuff!).

We use these subscription models heavily at my Uni - its far more cost effective + plus you've always got access to latest version each year. You'd have to be mad to buy individual licenses for Adobe and Autodesk products are they are crazily expensive (especially Adobe stuff!).

Well I've had an adobe sub for a year now and I love it. And I was in the process of actually buying 3DS Max on a plan where the lowest payment plan was for 350 a month. This did not include automatic upgrades to the latest version I would be stuck in the older version of the 2014 version at the end of the payment cycle which was 2-3 years down the line, if I can remember correctly. At least with this I can start my license when I want and end it when I want also get the updated product when its ready. Compared to the prices for the subscriptions they had before this is wayyyyyyyy easier for a budget. Its only 125$ out of each check i get a months and that gives me both adobes full product line and 3DS Max. IMO this is beautiful!

You know what ? If... and this is a big if... the AAA game development market continues its decline, then I could see studios such as Epic following similar models for their engine tech in years to come.

You know, this is probably one of the few shreds of goodness to come out of the big financial crash in 2008... Adobe and the like have been forced to conclude that people can no longer afford to pay ridiculous license fees - especially academic organisations (who they've been ripping off for years IMO). In short, they've had to re-think their cost models, which is welcome news for sure! You know what ? If you pay 2 years of rent you spent the amount of money for buying one licence?!

I've been testing the Autodesk Collada export and so far so good. Have not tried complex characters yet.
