Will GarageGames open-source the code of it's past projects?

Torque 3D MIT is slowly gaining momentum and i believe that a huge addition to that would be the open-sourcing of titles like "Fallen Empire: Legions" and "Marble Blast Online". The community could start porting the games to T3D 1.2 and have a solid codebase to work on improvements.

They already provide all the scripts and assets, just not the engine itself (or the slick little patcher/downloader).
That would be pretty cool (although mostly for those of us that make tribes like games with the engine, not so useful if your making something else)
Its all the stuff that got ripped out of the engine for current version of T3D. Plus some cool stuff to learn from.

Would that mean you could release the engine code for Fallen Empire? They already provide all the scripts and assets, just not the engine itself (or the slick little patcher/downloader).

Nope. All of the source code for the games is included in the IP, so that is not possible.

Isn't there already marble physics in the MIT 3.0? I thought I remember seeing something on that. Maybe?

hmm so who technically owns the Fallen Empire IP?

The Legions IP? I believe it is IAC, and they allowed the the community to work with some pieces of it before closing operations at GG and selling the company. But I'm unsure about all of the business dealings at that time since it was the InstantAction division (and even if I were privy to the information, I would be bound by my NDA for the business transfer).

They dont appear to have anything on the site about it, it still says its an instant action game. Looks like quite a bit of work went into it, would be cool to either help out with it or use it as an educational bit of game development.

Under the NDA are you not allowed to say who purchased Legions? They dont appear to have anything on the site about it, it still says its an instant action game. Looks like quite a bit of work went into it, would be cool to either help out with it or use it as an educational bit of game development.

The community group that is maintaining Legions as Legions: Overdrive through an arrangement they made with IAC was toying with the idea of porting it to T3D MIT.

IAC owns the Legions IP. The engine side of that game was an internal branch of TGEA, even if we could release any of the code it wouldn't be very useful and would only distract from T3D.The community group that is maintaining Legions as Legions: Overdrive through an arrangement they made with IAC was toying with the idea of porting it to T3D MIT.

And the marble stuff in T3D was made by Dave and Ron to demonstrate the Leap Motion integration as seen in this blog post.
