How do you export an autodesk maya (2013) project as a .DAE

by Cam Noor · in Torque 3D Beginner · 08/01/2013 (11:13 am) · 9 replies

This should be on the autodesk forums, but autodesk's forum isn't very good; if anyone knows a plugin or way to do it please reply to this thread.

Quick google search brought up this video.
I'm not an artist so I can't say if it works, but theres prolly some plugin out there that does.

Thanks, but that's for changing .dae to a maya file not a maya file to a .dae, but thanks though this could prove useful

Ah sorry thought it was both ways.
Try this
The issue is ofc that even tho you find an exporter, it might have issues with exporting the right data for Torque etc. I guess unless someone can recommend a plugin, it's just a trial-and-error process.

Autodesk provides a tool to convert FBX to DAE.

I'm not into Maya that much but I'm sure it's the same procedure as with Max and Blender. I know there's a DAE_FBX export option when exporting to Torque.

Make sure you have the latest plugin or at least compatible with your Torque version.

There is a free Autodesk 3D Modeling program called SoftImage Mod Tool 7.5. It can import MAYA and export .dae. (It is free to Indie's) Autodesk does not support the free version but you can find it here:
moddb
I can't really tell you how to use it. I have put many hours in and have not gotten very far. I think it is comparable to 3D Max. The SoftImage program sells for over $3K. So if you want to get your feet wet, as I do, this is a good place to start.

You can try OpenCOLLADA. you can find some information about exporting from Maya and 3ds Max using OpenCOLLADA here: http://vandaengine.com/tutorials/
