Losing/Doubling forum posts

Fairly often the site takes longer than would be reasonably expected to commit a post, and a user might think they failed to actually click the "post" button - clicking it again will result in a double post. Is there a way to detect these duplicates and stop them before they commit?
Also, occasionally a post will not appear until I make another post in the same forum (or leave the site - ctrl-F5 does not seem to remedy this). this seems to happen at a "page boundary" - where it is the post that rolls over to add a new page to the topic.
