MMORPG Development Team Needed

by Brandon M H · in Jobs · 12/02/2011 (4:18 am) · 13 replies

Team name:

The team name we are running under is "Splash Games". It is currently not a registered company, but we are looking to register it in the near future.

Project name:

The project we are currently recruiting for is a MMORPG. The project, as with every MMORPG project, is projected to take 2-3 years. It may take less or more time depending on the team size, and how much work is put in per week.

Brief description:

We are hoping to make the project commercial, but free to play works as well.

The project will be a medieval, fantasy-based MMORPG. Players will be able to choose their race and class, professions, etc. They will be able to quest, raid, PvP, adventure and more within the world.

Target aim:

The project is projected to go retail.

Compensation:

The team will be paid after the project begins to generate a source of income. Staff will start to get paid in 1 of 2 cases: a.) the project begins making money OR b.) the project gets investors.

Technology:

The project is planned to be playable on Mac and Windows operating systems (Linux is a possibility in the future).

The gane engine we are currently using is the Torque 3D engine. The programming language we will be using is C++.

Other tools we can use include: Flash, Photoshop, etc.

At this point, we encourage our current team members to use their own software as well.

Talent needed:

General requirements for all staff members:

-You must know what you are doing. Please have experience. You don't need a college degree in it (although that would be nice), but please don't sign-up if you just started learning to code 2 days ago.

-You must be a team player. We are going to have a few staff members, and we don't need people who just can't get along. Sure. You might not like an idea, but tell us in a nice way, don't scream.

-Your work is our work. Once you given us a 3D model, piece of artwork, music, etc., it's ours. You give us full permission to take ownership of that creation and put it into the game freely. (Of course, you will get credit for the creation.) (Sorry for any misunderstandings- this is to prevent a person from making an entire zone, then ditching the project and forcing us to delete the content. We will not sell/ give out any of your work without prior consent.)

-Be at meetings. The team will have meetings via Skype calls and chats. Please have a Skype account and be able to attend meetings. We notice you have a life and might not be able to attend every meeting, but if you aren't going to show up "just 'cause", then you won't know what is going on and it all goes downhill from there.

-Be mature. Don't wine, cuss someone out of the Skype call, or just be downright stupid. I enjoy being fun and energetic- but if you're going to be an idiot, don't sign up and annoy another developer.

Available Positions: (Anything that says "Closed" next to it is a closed spot, and does not need more staff. Anything else is free to submit an application for!)

-Client Programmers: Programming the game client and making sure it runs smoothly. (Java is the programming language we are looking to use.)

-Server Programmers: Programming the server that can run multiple people doing lots ofthings.

-World Builders/ Level Designers: People who can use 3D modeling to design the different environments (deserts, jungles/ forests, cities, etc.) for the world.

-Animators: Be able to make our characters dance a jig, make our dragons breathe fire, and make our fountains spray water.

-3D Modeler: People who can make fat ogres, buff humans, scary tigers, and fancy castles.

-Particle Effect Artist/ Programmer: Someone who can design a bright, warm fire, a pretty candle glow, make our spells sparkle, and other spells explode in udder destruction.

-Economy Balancer: A person good with math who can make sure that things are properly balanced within the games economy. (Example: Steel ore is found everywhere on the map, and it is a battle to the death to get copper ore, and rare gold ore is too easy to find.)

-Artist: Somebody who can draw an angry orc with good detail, or draw a magnificent royal city environment.

-Lore writer: A creative person capable of creating different back-stories/ lore's of different races, characters, etc. (Temporarily Closed)

-Quest Designer: A person who can create innovative and fun quests for different level players. (Temporarily Closed)

-Webmaster: A person who can use programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver to create a website, functioning blog, functioning forum, and make the website be able to have users sign into the website with their in-game email and password.

If you think you are able to assist in another position, PM me with the idea.

If you want to apply for any of the above jobs, either leave a reply or PM me with the following information:

-Your name (the real one, not soccerdude45) (I only need your first name, so I know what to call you, but you can tell me your last if you would like!)

-Your Skype username (So our team can add you to their Skype, and we can hold meetings with you.) (If you do not already have a Skype, please register one so we can have a meeting with you included.)

-Your position. (It'd be helpful if I knew what you were wanting to do- wouldn't it?) (You can take multiple roles in development)

-A portfolio of some sort. (A link to your portfolio website, your work on your Facebook page, a few images you upload and send me... whatever. I just want to know you can actually do the work.)

-Any other information you want to include. (Want to tell me the brand of your coffee mug? That's wonderful. Want to tell me your past/ current experience with game development? Awesome! Want to introduce me to your cat? Fine. But I would prefer your position-related information most.)

Team structure:

-Brandon: Game Director, Weapon & Armor Design, Map Layouts
-Markus: Lead Programmer
-Win: 3d Modeler
-Robyn: 3d Modeler, 3D Animator
-Matthew: Lead Musician
-Curtis: Lead Quest Designer and Lore Writer
-Michael: Basic Programmer & Designer

Website:

Our current website is:

http://splashgames.zxq.net/

(Please note that this website is only a place holder. We plan on releasing a more graphical and intriguing website sometime soon.)

There is currently no project website aside from the one above. (Once development has started, a Facebook and Twitter page will be started up.)

Contacts:

The best way to contact me is either:

-Leave a reply on this forum

-PM via this forum

-Skype: Branmatt

I cannot wait to hear from you all!

Thanks,
~Brandon

My name is Svengali, lol.

I see you guys are starting your project. An MMO is a huge undertaking, as you probably know. We are currently alpha testing our title, ATROX NOCTIS. However, the project sit on top of our secret protect the NightLife MMO Engine. We plan to (in the future) license the base engine to the T3D community, like AFX or UAISK. I mention this to you because we are a couple of months away from going beta, which is when the engine should be ready. Possibly, we could help each other. Email me at svengali11(a)hotmail.com if your interested and I'll give you some of ideas on what we could do, and I'm not meaning selling you something or anything. I really mean help each other.

Greeting Brandon,

My company is looking for more manpower as well. We are nearing the early alpha of our new project Legends of Etherell: Antavia (www.legends-of-etherell.com), so I've emailed you and added you on Skype to converse with you about a few things.

Thanks for your time.

Nevermind: Medieval Warrior sounded like an Rpg, not a FPS. I was just trying ta' see exactly, and I think I found the answer.
