by TheGasMan · in General Discussion · 07/25/2011 (3:34 am) · 28 replies

Noted as per image below:
1. T3D will no longer find the GT555 no matter what I try
2. The GT555 is clearly working
3. Nvidia panel says: GT555 is card being utilized

..the graphics of the game show as a mix between low and high settings; some trees show at low res, some grass shows mid res
..so wonk. specs below.

win7 64
Q2630 4core/8threads
6GB ram
IntelHD/GT555 Optimus
- Everything is up to date, other games work well, T3D worked correctly for a few runs, then defaulted to Intel again.

As Scott noted, we need to know more about the profile process. It may not do any good to do it prior to going Gold with your product since the profile may change depending on how NVidia creates the profile. If it is something that we can do and release with relative certainty that it will work down the road, then it makes sense for us to have them create the profile for T3D. If it will change significantly with each compile, then it would make more sense for each developer to do it for their game since the game would need to run on the devices consistently and need its own profile.

GOOD NEWS!

I tried running T3D today, just like many times before, by right-clicking and selecting the Nvidia GPU - the only difference this time is that it actually works! Just for the sake of testing, I tried running by just double clicking, and it still works. Problem fixed, I guess!

Being so, I must redraw my complaints about GarageGames and T3D on laptops and thank everyone here for the help. Off to the tutorials, then!

Did you do a driver update? What is the driver version so that other people can check to see if it works for them as well?

this same thing happened to me and still happens to me. DOn't get your hopes up.
However, if you can figure out the reason as to why it's random, we'd all love ya for it. ;)

Well, as far as I know, no update was installed recently - but I am not absolutely sure.

My Nvidia driver version is 301.42.

I'll keep you guys posted.

@Pedro,
Did it improve performance considerably?

@Frank,

Yes, performance improved drastically. I can still notice some lag, but it's on par with what I used to get with my now defunct desktop with a 9600GT - so those FPS drops kind of make sense with a 310M.

One thing that might help, but may not be practical is to set the computer to run all program on the GPU. Of course you won't have any kind of battery life.

As for a programmatic way of doing this I have yet to find one. Some people have even tried forcing it to use the GPU by initing CUDA, but it does not work. I think NVIDIA still has some kinks to work out.
