Create 2D with TorqueX3D

I'm a beginner programmer, I'm thinking of making a browserbased RTS game. It will be in 2D, so will I be able to create it using 3D, the reason why I'm not buying 2D is that I'm planning to make a 3D rpg and fps, and cannot afford to buy both software.

Any help will be appreciated.
