T3D 1.1b3 & 1.2 - Sounds not playing correctly...

by CSMP · in Torque 3D Professional · 03/14/2011 (10:06 am) · 9 replies

I'm having a pretty serious problem with the T3D sound system, In my project I have setup the weapons with the basic sounds, I'm hearing the weaponFiring sound moving from left to right channel(when it shouldnt) while moving forward with the gun about level, it does fine while moving backwards and does pretty well while left/right movement and even works while moving forward if the gun is lowered or raised.

I've setup the extra SFX $prefs as the documentation has stated and raised the referanceDistance of the sounds hoping that it would stop the effect to no avail, has anyone else had this problem?

Yeah, I'm seeing some screwy stuff happening in regards to the sfx listener in b3 too. High on my list.

BTW, which SFX provider are you using (FMOD, OAL, ...)? Does changing it make any difference?

P.S. the original sound problem only happened in First-Person view.

I'm using OpenAL, tried using other providers Xaudio and DirectSound and it sounded much worse(exaggerated sound beyond that of original problem)...

Though strange enough after messing with the provider's and $pref::SFX::useHardware it worked, then it didnt and now it seems it works fine?

If it starts happening again I'll try and figure out what started it and what exactly I did to fix it.

I'm pretty sure I know where this is coming from. Need to take a closer look, though.

You sure you hit "Post" in the right thread, Szzg007? :)

Rest assured though that the GG guys are crazy busy. It's a pretty crazy time for them getting the reboot completed and hit full speed.

This should be fixed in 1.1, definitely fixed in 1.2. The ticket for it got misshelved during 1.1, but it should have been taken care of via others.

This problem has not been fixed, Using FMOD I still experience sound problems with weapons in first person view... third person works fine though.

It seems that while moving forward the gun sounds have been fixed but if i stay still i can't even hear the gun, backing up and shooting I rarely hear the gun and moving sideways makes the sound only play in the direction of movement(ie. moving left only plays in left ear, etc)

I have a slow speed connection so uploading videos is a very time consuming process so I have tried to test and post any relevant results above

There is still something that is not right about 1st person view and weapon sounds.

@CSMP
Do you get the same results in stock 1.2?

Yes, All I did was put the two FMOD files into the ExampleFPS folder, switched to FMOD and loaded the Mars level and it sounds pretty bad in First-Person View, which are the same results as my project.
