iTorque2D price

Hi, Im a tad confused with this new pricing structure. I see everything is $99, however itorque2d lists that tgb pro is required (which I can't find). What would happen If I just purchased itorque2d by itself?

There's no structure. It's flat. You buy an engine, you get that with full source. No pre-requisites at all.

However, there is a known problem where people can't upgrade if they have an engine from the same line. So going from T2D to T2D Pro (which are the new names for TGB) might still have issues. They are working on it, when the webmonkeys recover.

These are the engines they focus on now:
T2D
iT2D
T3D

That's it. Three products. If you want to develop for iOS, only iT2D is required. Any references to the old structure mean they just forgot to update all descriptions.

If you would like to develop for desktops, you'll still want T2D. T3D was supposed to also give you the older 3D engines, but there is another bug due to the transition to new owners. But if you're focusing on modern desktop systems that's all you want.

Excellent! Money will be spent! :D

Just one more question, if anyone knows, when does this deal expire? I'm pretty skint at the moment (out of work), however my birthday is cropping up in 3 weeks time and this would make a great birthday present to myself, since I should have some spare pieces of eight at this point.

Many thanks for your rather quick response. I see what the guys mean about the active community

Nobody knows when this deal will expire, not even the people who run this place. I have a pretty good feeling 3 weeks from now you will still be able to get it for $99 :)

Guesstimate: If they're changing the price, they will give 2-4 weeks warning. I got the impression from Erik that they want to run this for a good while, so 2-4 weeks maybe. About 99% likely they won't pull the rug from under you until your birthday.

Yeah, the community is starting to be back to its old, active condition again. Lots of new people, lots of people who disappeared sometime in the past returning :)

So, If I buy iTorque 2D I don't need the source of TGB and I still get the source of iTorque 2D?

Oh and will I need to have a mac to complete a full game and get it on the app store or can I do it with windows?

Yes, each individual product is with full source, nothing else required.

You do need a Mac to release for the AppStore. Signing *may* be possible with various clever tools, but you need to compile YOUR game in the first place. The various standard datafiles in the Xcode project need to be converted, and the uploader that works best is built into Xcode. Oh, and there is no web upload anymore. So you NEED to use Xcode.

You can't test on the device without compiling your game and installing it either.

Question regarding the above quote - does this mean that Torque 3D cannot be used for developing for iOS (or not easily, anyway)?

From the Torque 3D page: http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque-3d
"Add publishing paths to PC, Mac, Xbox 360, Wii, iPhone, and the web, and you have the power to distribute games almost everywhere they are played."

It does mention iPhone.

That's likely a leftover that wasn't caught during this recent transition. There had been an iTorque3D product in development, however it has been dropped for the sake of consolidating the product line. Someone should probably fix that reference, as you're not going to be getting T3D to run on iOS.

Thanks Henry,
That clears things up quite a bit, since I'm only interested (for right now) in using Torque to target iOS.

Henry's correct, that was a remnant from when the 3D iPhone engine was in development.
