The site wish list

Derek suggested making a thread for this, so here it goes.
We know the site has some bugs and we know search is terrible. They also know, and are working on it. So let's list what we want improved, added or changed other than that!
My personal wishes:
What else do you lot want? Add to this, as they'll be watching this thread :)

My personal wishes:
- Private messages - hide our e-mail and let the site mail us instead.
- Categories for the resource section - one per engine would be fine, and optional private posts for engine changes so only engine owners can access it.
- A repository for resources would also be nice, especially for larger modifications which constantly change. Also good practice for all of those people out there who never heard of source control :)

This thread has a year and a half, and the vast majority of the requests are repeated, in disorder due to the lack of a proper feedback mechanism, and ultimately, unheard.
There was people supossed to be in charge of the site, can we know what are they doing?

The site looks rather abandoned in its progression towards what the web is the present day. This thread has a year and a half, and the vast majority of the requests are repeated, in disorder due to the lack of a proper feedback mechanism, and ultimately, unheard.

We've recently hired on a second web developer so that our plans for the site can move forward quicker.

Not abandoned or unheard. Web can be a tricky thing as it is both a support and development department, it's a lot to ask of one guy. Couple that with having to compete with the engines and art packs for QA time in what was an extremely release heavy year (most releases in a year in GG's history) and slower feature improvements is to be expected. We've recently hired on a second web developer so that our plans for the site can move forward quicker.

Share/like buttons for the blogs/resources would be nice.

Get. on. it. Also, my dollar-sign numeral sequences all disappeared from my YACC code, so it looks like backslashes aren't the only broken thing. My rant on the blog-post in question reads:

Quote:Gah. I'd honestly rather be able to embed iFrames from Pastebin than deal with the vagaries of this forum software. Every phpBB, SMF, and Invision installation in the world can display code just fine, so why is a website by-and-for programmers incapable of doing so correctly?
This has been a problem for literally the entire time I can remember posting on GarageGames, will someone from the web team not spend the 5 minutes it should take to fix the problem?

It would be nice if "Mark forums read" had other options than going back to "Unread posts", like the forum list. And again I wish for a better way to list the forums I follow, and filter out the ones I don't care about (TorqueX) when listing the unread posts :)

Oddly enough, the reason the forum lists work the way it does now is because so many people complained about the forum subscription method that the site used to use. =P

I started a separate list for TDN: www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/130402

I'd like to have an option to see all the dates on the website (forum, blog, resources, etc) with european date format (dd/mm/yyyy) or even in asian format (yyyy-mm-dd). The US date format was always really confusing to me ^^

I would like to state that the search could use some more work maybe a sort by for the post date or maybe filtering down to a certain forum section.
Although I would also like to comment all this work that has been seems kinda like remaking the wheel since there are forum systems that do everything this does and more and don't take massive code rewrites.
But since we already made the wheel might as well add:
A favorites section to store goodies you found for later use with a separate search system.
A simple place to keep the mIRC info on the front page so more people know about it. (If its there it is not obvious)
also a place to tell us if the mIRC server is up and running as this is easily coded. So i know if the server is down and not have to scour the internet.
further categorization of posts, allowing people to choose code, and say physics for there question then later i can search for the physics and code section cross and find the posts marked with both.
Auto markup buttons. We have markup but sometimes it is nice to hit a button and your code block will appear since its easier than typing it in but only for some of the more common markup features of course.
i have a lot more since website building is my day job but i will leave it at that for now.
