Still soliciting GDC feedback
I refuse to believe that only three people have something to say about our GDC coverage this year. If you felt it was in any way lacking in terms of what you expected and what you got out of it, please let us know or there's a good chance we'll completely miss the fact and make the same mistake next year as well. So help us make the coverage better for you.
Moderator changes
So I was finally able to get around to enacting the changes I alluded to briefly in an earlier Sitrep. There are still a few things left to clean up, but a lot of the heavy work is behind me now. Here are some highlights...
First of all, you'll no longer see mods with the Moderator Emeritus tag. That group has been shut down, with the majority of those mods no longer moderators. The ME group had limited mod powers and were mainly bestowed upon moderators who could no longer visit the site on a regular basis. It was very confusing to people though and no one really knew the difference between an ME and a regular Moderator. A lot of the ME's still retain GDNet+ tags and could one day sport some sort of "GDNet VIP" tag or something.
Several moderators were revoked of their status entirely for just not coming around the site much at all anymore and a few of them were forum-assigned moderators. Other forum mods also chose to step down during the reorganization. This meant we had to find replacements. So far the new forum moderators are:* Caste - NeHe Productions* evolutional - Alternative Game Libraries* Glass_Knife - Java Development* InnocuousFox - Artificial Intelligence* jbadams - Your Announcements* Kazade - Nehe News* nsmadsen - Music and Sound* Zahlman - Game ProgrammingWe're still looking to replace 2-3 more forum mods, so check back next week for more on that.
Finally a lot of small little stuff was cleaned up and improved, like making sure all mods had proper tags if they were assigned to a forum, that a mod assigned to a forum was actually listed as mod on that forum - stupid little administrative details like that.
What this means is we have a nice strong group of 50 moderators patrolling the boards nearly 24/7 thanks to overlapping time zones. So don't even try it! They're watching you! [smile]
Conferences in May
Our President, Melissa "frizzlefry" Astle has been trying to make it out to LA Games conference this week, and there are two more conferences coming up towards the middle of May as well. First I'll be driving up to Boston to attend the Indie Games Convention East the 7th and 8th. Then both Lissa and I will be flying out to Seattle to check out the LOGIN conference (formerly ION, formerly OGDC).
So expect the Twitter account to be very active this month! [smile]
New resources
* The Art of Game Design: A book of lenses - Another book on game design? Is there anything about game design that hasn't been said already? Should I get this book if I already know about game design? All questions will be answered in this review.
New events
* Games For Learning Institute Summit @ New York, NY, United States - May 26, 2009
