Am I an Indie?
If you or your company earn less than $250,000 per year, you qualify as an Indie and can purchase GarageGames products at our special discount for Indies. The specific difference between the two licenses are described below.Indies...
- must display the engine logo upon startup of the game.
- cannot transfer license ownership.
- must be working on a game.
- may publish your game ANYWHERE.
- pay no royalties, EVER.
Commercial customers...
- must display the engine logo upon startup of the game. (RECENT CHANGE)
- may transfer license ownership.
- may purchase company licenses (licenses are tied to programmer seats rather than users).
- access to official developer training via the Torque Boot Camps.
- pay no royalties, EVER. (Yes, we realize this is not a difference between the two licenses, but this point has been misunderstood for so long we feel the need to reiterate it.)
Torque for consoles or non-game applications (serious games, simulations, virtual worlds, machinima, etc.)
- Contact licensing@garagegames.com for licensing details.
Educational customers...
- must work out specific licensing details for schools purchasing 10 or more seats. Contact Davey Jackson at education@garagegames.com or (541) 345-3040 ext.105.
Note: if you purchase an Indie license and your revenue subsequently increases to $250,000 or above in a year, you must upgrade to a commercial license. Visit the relevant commercial product page to upgrade.
