Monster Studios knows what you want. The Reaction Engine is a hobbyist game engine designed specifically for beginner programmers, making small fun games, or prototyping game ideas quickly.
The Reaction Engine, which Monster Studios developed for its smash family game Chain Reaction, will have you up and running within an hour*. The SDK is extensively documented with over 100 cross-linked pages. The code base is meticulously commented and entirely integrated into the Microsoft Visual C++ environment. We've also provided many examples that show you the ropes and get you up and running quickly.
If you're new to programming, the Reaction Engine is for you. It is written entirely in C++. Maybe you're not quite up-to-speed with C++! The Reaction Engine is an easy way to get your feet wet. We've even included a Crash Course in C++ Programming.
The Reaction Engine's 3D graphic suite comes complete with 3D Studio Max and Milkshape 3D exporters, which easily converts most 3D models. The Reaction Engine supports all of BraveTree Production's Content Packs giving you a head start on your first game.
The Reaction Engine also has an open licensing agreement. Once purchased you can do whatever you like with the engine or any derived products except redistribute the engine's source and symbolic binaries. What the heck does this mean? Well, basically, if you release a game with the Reaction Engine, you keep 100% of the money, Monster Studios doesn't hold any rights to any works you create.

RE SDK just rocks! I fell in love with it from day one. The SDK was designed with the novice in mind, very simple layout/architecture and very easy to understand and get up to speed with.

Chris, I thought you said not to tell anyone that Chain Reaction took three years:) Anyways congrats on releasing this great engine and I can't wait to see what else Monster Studios has planned for the future.
