Estimation until RC/Gold?

Hello, (sorry if this has been asked before, can't imagine it hasn't been..)
The new academic year is starting and we're about to start a project at college using T3D as an engine. Since this is going to require lots of modifications to the engine itself, we were wondering: do you have an estimate until the first RC or Gold status of the engine? As constantly updating a modified engine can of course turn out to be quite a hassle.
