Zelda Online Fangame.

I'm making a Zelda fangame instead of my old idea of Halo Fan Edition.
You guys are right, Microsoft would kill me.
As for Nintendo, I've seen millions of Fangames, all of them untouched.
Even whole sites dedicated to fangames.
So, as long as I don't make it TOO good, I don't think I'll be in trouble.
Check out this early screen (Familiar background, huh?):

"There are many fan games based on The Legend of Zelda. Some games consist of entirely original material, while some others are re-makes of existing games. However, due to legal issues, many such projects have been shut down before completion"

Doesnt really matter what IP it is in my opinion, your still going to run in to problems.

Your better off spending your time on something worthwhile.

Really, why trade legal woes with one company for legal woes with another? Just because Team X hasn't gotten an Cease and Desist letter yet doesn't mean that Team Y won't, regardless of which one started their projects first. Both are in violation, and getting away with it doesn't change its legal standing.

I would strenuously recommend that you change any IP references and likenesses in the game, and simply use your own characters. If the game is fun, people will still play it, you will be able to legitimately profit from it, and you won't have to worry about or experience any legal problems. Win-win-win if you ask me...

Dang, I knew it!
This is just a "learning experience" for me.

It's all good. Just remember a good rule of thumb is that if the game is fun, you can swap out the characters and story, and it will be just as fun. So make your game, but just change the art so that it's all your IP instead of someone else's. Who knows, yours might turn out to be the next cool thing ;)
