Old School Games: Golden age of RPG's

In this day and age, when a designer or programer thinks of the term "old school games", they tend to lean toward mario, asteriods, battlezone, etc.., As old as these games are, i still think the old staples that most if not all games are based on. Every RTS can be be traced back to chess, as can every RPG can be traced back to swords and sorcery, or dungeons and dragons.I intend to keep creating these kinds of games, i have a talent for creating such things. Although i do respect video games, and i still like to design such things. My programing skills are very limited, so i won't be able to produce my games to my full potentail without a little help. I've been getting some slack for even trying to design and make these games, yet i'm dealing basic elements that gave birth to our great industry. any help is appreciated.

John, I feel you man, deeply, as I'm forced into a very same position. Knowing what helps to make a great title, knowing how to implement new and exciting ideas that are focused towards bringing out great gameplay, knowing how even the smallest and simplist of ideas can turn a common game type based on tried and true genres and make it that much more original, but all without the means to bring it to life.

My same intentions, based on neither monitary gain nor self indulgance, but rather a release of interactive art and emotional satisfaction towards the players, has all been but encouraged or assisted by those here on GG, with the exception of a brief few.

It's encouraging to know there are still others, like you and I, who believe in the persuit of our dreams no matter how impossible they may appear.

My only advice is not to give up, get everything as coherent as possible in order to present them to others, and just maybe you will get lucky in finding help here on GG. I also and always offer my own assistance as a designer and artist if need be.

Good luck.
