Where to find beta testers?

by Vern Jensen · in Torque Game Builder · 08/11/2009 (9:29 am) · 9 replies

Sounds like a silly question perhaps, but I'm looking for about 50 beta testers (Mac and Windows, but I'm mostly interested in Windows testers at the moment) for my nearly-finished space shooter game:

If you're reading this and wish to become a dedicated tester (i.e. committed to playing levels faithfully for about a month) you're welcome to contact me, but I'm primarily interested in *gamers* not developers. i.e. where can I post an announcement that I'm recruiting gamers to beta test? Any website referrals or ideas would be great.

Didn't see an email in your profile. Anyone interested can email me:

vern "AT" actionsoft (dot) com

However I'm still curious if anyone has a website they can recommend, esp. for Windows users, where I could post a news release about looking for testers.

well... if your game is a scrolling shooter (like, say, Gradius), the best place to ask for GOOD help and feedback would be this place

http://shmups.system11.org/viewforum.php?f=1

you can get some serious feedback on gameplay and all that... but be prepared, if they dont like your game, they'll let you know ... in the worst way possible (i just happened to see something like that a month or so ago, with a game called Last Hope for the DreamCast).

@Vern: The perfect way to get your beta testers would be to do a quick blog about the game and a call for testers (putting it in the blog title would help to attract people to read the blog too). Forum posting is good, but the blogs stay up longer, and it gives you a chance to really put your game in front of the community here. Hope that helps :)

Jenning, that was a while ago. The game is tested and released now. Thanks for your interest though.

No, I don't advertise -- I've found paid advertising either loses money or just breaks even, for the minor increase in sales it tends to bring when you have just one or two products.
