Texturing A Zombie Tutorial

ive been working on a human model for awhile and finally got it done. i'm using it for a zombie in my game and ive been using PSP8 for a while. all i ask is any tips on how to make textures look better or where do i start im not that good at texturing at all. the only thing im having trouble with is make the details on it like the the creases from the eyes i guess the shadowing part. any suggestions please and thanks you in advance! :)

Well, I'm a photoshoper, but the general rules apply to all painting applications... So usually what I do with shadows is create a new layer and name it shadows. This way, you can easily change your shadows. I then pick a shadow color, for skin I usually pick a dark red because thats what color normal skin changes in shadow. Then I stick to the basics and block out the general shadow areas. The important thing is to remember the basic shadow types-

Form shadow-- This is the transition from light to darkness, its a smooth gradient transition,

Core Shadow- This is the darkest part of the shadow. It is where the form shadow ends(where light would no longer be touching the surface.

Reflected light- This is on the opposite side of the core shadow to the form shadow. This is where light has reflected off another surface and bounced back to slightly light the form.

Cast shadow- This has a hard transition, there is no gradiant, this is the shadow that is casted from form blocking direct light to another surface.
I googled it, and this is this is an ok example--

Painted form(shadow) is something that comes with practice. Especially free hand, you could always google zombie, and use those reference images to create your texture. That's probably your best bet if this is something your new to...
