I dont think you can have a normal map in a layer about with no color at all for one. I would call that a bug. You must at least have a color or a texture in the diffuse slot. Perhaps GG should make it so that the normal map is locked out and the layer doesn't even get calculated if this is the case. If the diffuse has no texture and no color then the layer gets completely ignored.

I can't completely agree with locking layers until a diffuse is added...that is more of a get-out than a real solution. No offense James. ;)

I think that I see the simplicity that this material editor is supposed to be & I suppose I was expecting too much from it. Which is completely my fault of course.

It's merely that I had hoped for a bit more than it being a marketing tool.
- CustomMaterial capability ?
- Layer overlaying capability without a diffuse ?
- Ability to color a mesh without the need for a diffuse map ?

EDIT: after all of my random tests..I cleared every setting from that material and applied a new diffuse map and saw this: IMAGE BUT when I reset the material and added the same texture, it looked like this: IMAGE

wild.

//Edit: edited alot :P

@eb,

I have a lot of trouble with this as well. No matter what I do I can not get my textures to show up bright like they should, all are dark.

I'm a bit with eb but I assume the material editor will actually expand over time.

Had my own share of problems with the material editor, especially when it comes to use it on CustomMaterial where it totally trashes the assignements.
