Interactive Sound Installation using TGE now running @ZKM, Germany

Hello all,

Hello friends,

This is a little late notice as I premiered the piece last night, but...

If you happen to be near Karlsruhe, Germany, I am showing a new
multi-user interactive sound installation all day today and tomorrow
at ZKM (Zentrum fur Medien und Kunst). The piece is a large
interactive sound installation in 3D game space (TGE), with the main space
featuring a fun navigation system, a 270 degree view of the world (3
screens) and surround audio. You move your own body around the space
to control the movement of the virtual body (live video tracking), while manipulating a
miniature, wireless version of your own head to control to virtual
head (3D compass sensor).

Here's the ZKM link:

And here's a more complete description (pdf):

Would love to see you, if you happen to be on this side of the ocean!
If not, I´ll pester you with videos later.

best,
Zachary

Hi everyone,

Just in case anyone's interested, here's some footage from the ZKM installation. It's pretty raw, better documentation will happen eventually. The software should be available soon for both single and multi-player.

I must say, I am extremely impressed with the networking stability of TGE (and it's newer relatives). Once the installation was up and running, I encountered not a single problem from the game engine - which allowed me to focus on other more fickle matters (video tracking, battery replacement in the wireless head, etc.). Thanks Garage Games.

best,
Zachary

P.S. - Thanks to Yuri Dobronravin for his excellent engine mods, and to the makes of the FPS Environment packs (which you'll notice I relied on heavily).

Cool videos. Looks like a fun way to navigate through a 3D world.

And true, Torque networking is really solid.
