platform starter kit not functional
by David Burns · in Torque X 2D · 07/28/2009 (4:43 pm) · 7 replies
We are part of the xna creators club and downloaded the torque x 3.0 for creators club usage and we wanted to purchase the torque x plaform starter kit to go with it. when we tried to purchase the platform kit it said we needed torque x. ok so now we are confused but we scrounge around and sell what we can (since we are practically dirt poor) and get the $150 for torque x 3.1 and $30 for the torque x platformer kit. when we tried out the creators club version it was confusing but we eventually got it. now that we have the x 3.1 and plaformer kit it does not work. so how in the world are we supposed to do anything if they don't work...is it possible to get money back or are we now screwed? (running xp pro service pack 3) any time we try to open or start a project it says something about a schema what in the world is that all about? if anyone can help it would be totally awesome. thanks

You can find the 3.0.0.0 in your "My Products" when you choose the "previous versions' drop down menu.
Also, wanted to let you know that we are looking into the issues that some users are reporting and I hope to have some news soon. I'll be sure to post it here when I do. Thanks!

Hey guys. I've added the 3.0 download back into the downloads for the product and removed the link above, as we don't want anyone who doesn't own the product to go downloading it. You can find the 3.0.0.0 in your "My Products" when you choose the "previous versions' drop down menu.

OK so I uninstalled Torque Platformer 3.1, reinstalled 3.0, and made a new project. Then I went to upgrade the solution to 3.1 as recommended in another thread on here, but still got the same errors about being unable to find Torque2d, etc. Do I also need to downgrade Torque X to 3.0, and if so, do I also need to downgrade XNA to 3.0? That's a lot of downgrading just to get what was supposed to be an upgrade (I had been using Torque Platformer Starter Kit 2.0) to work...

Steve the buider you need for the platformer kit is the TX2D not the TGB. The TGB is for windows, mac, linux and iPhone.
OK Step by step how I got it to work.
Look at this thread http://www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/94541
Do the MSIEXEC thing in Pablo's post.
open the folder, then follow this path
CSEXPRESSINSTALLDIR
VCSExpress
ProjectTemplates
in that folder you will see:
XNA Game Studio 3.1 (folder)
GarageGames_Demo_Template_bin
GarageGames_Starter_Template_bin
copy all of these to your VCexpress user templates folder. It is in the same folder as your projects folder. (unless you moved it)
In the templates folder you will see:
ProjectTemplates
inside there is
VisualC# (I have VS2008, not certain about express)
this is the folder where you place the templates.
Then open up VS and make your project.
Have fun. and good luck.
BTW you are also going to have to fix the references before it will compile.

I tried both the 3.0 and the 3.1, same error they do not install. This was on windows 7. I'll have to try again in vista.Steve the buider you need for the platformer kit is the TX2D not the TGB. The TGB is for windows, mac, linux and iPhone.

Just wanted to say thanks for this info. I managed to get mine working by following the advice above. (Windows Vista, VC#2008, XNA 3.1)

I've found myself in a similar situation. got the torque x with creators. then wanted the platformer kit, but it sz you need the builder with it. so i got the tgb... (which is not based on xna and is geared towards pc only) but, whatever, I might wanna make a pc game too. then I purchase the tx2d and find out that if you want to mess around with the source code, you need the pro version... so I upgrade to the pro version. At this point, I've got TorqueX (creators club), TGB, Tx2dPro. And after seeing how riddled with bugs tx2d STILL is, I'm just happy I didn't get the platformer kit or the tx3d or I'd be REALLY dissapointed. For now, though, I 'think' tx2d might be just usable enough to make somethin. I only need to make a game that's based around what torque can actually do, and avoid any crazy ideas for fear of torque layin the smack down.
best of luck.
