Tutorial Issue

Just got TGB and I started with the first tutorial. I’m in the Mounting section of the tutorial and it asks to drag the cloudImageMap from the Sprite rollout. The tutorial said nothing about loading the sprite menu which was empty after installing the program. Once I figured out how to fill the menu’s it asks to find the rain.eff and drag that onto the scene. There is only one effect in Particle Effects called NewEffect. Where do I find rain.eff and why doesn’t the tutorial cover where these items are?

I drag rain.eff onto the scene and there appears to be no effect, it looks like a empty box. There are also other effects in the Starter art resources that look empty.

Did you add the images associated with these effects, as shown in the component tutorial?

Thanks for the help so far.

I have starterArt and partilcesArt loaded. There are now more Particle Effects loaded but rain.eff still features no animation or effect when dragged onto the screen. I uninstalled and reinstalled and I still see no effect for rain.eff, it looks like a blank box when dragged onto the scene. Thanks for the help so far.

drag in into your scene, then click the edit button, then you will see a spot that has the particles listed. make sure the particle has something in the image map drop down, if it doesnt then you need to add it.

However, when I go to select an image to map to the effect, there is no rain graphic listed. Where do I find a rain graphic and how do I add it to the image map list for effects?
Further more, why is this not already loaded if this is a part of the tutorial and if it needs to be loaded, why doesn't the tutorial document this step?
Thank again guys.

Thank you, I see it now. When compared to the other Particle Effects, rain.eff has nothing associated with it.However, when I go to select an image to map to the effect, there is no rain graphic listed. Where do I find a rain graphic and how do I add it to the image map list for effects?

I fell for this as well and had to search these forums. Why has this not been fixed? Judging by the number of search results this is a common issue. It's not a good first use experience.John

Hate to "rain.eff" on you parade but that wasn't the only issue I had with the feature tutorial. I've tried to get customer support to address it and never got a response back. As you can see it's been almost one year exactly since I bought and stopped using Torque 2D. Very dissatisfied with the whole experience and see it as a complete waste of $250.
I'm a graphic artist and have learned dozens of software platforms in relatively short time frames, this experience is nothing to write home about.

"New Assets
Before we continue, we are going to need some additional images and particles. If you have not already done so in a past tutorial, click here for instructions on adding the additional assets."
The "click here for instructions" is a component tutorial that opens in the same page and shows you how to add new particle effects.
