Handling of Spec and Trans in beta 4

In the upcoming release of T3d beta 4 what will be the correct system for Specmaps and transparecy maps in DDS?
I assume transperancy will be embeded in the Alpha channel for the diffuse , but what about Spec.
I have read several disscusions about this , but just want to know what the final outcome is

Thankyou

Right now specular is embedded in the alpha channel of the normal map. Pat said Beta 4 will allow for separate specular maps as well.

That's handy, spec didn't seem to like DXT5_NM compression.

Yes, DXTnm uses the alpha channel for the Y component of the normal (Alpha is compressed seperatly from color in DXT5). This usage of alpha is what makes DXTnm work at all acceptably (just straight DXT5 makes for ugly normal maps). I am glad there is now a good option, and..hey, you can DXT the specular map all you want, too :)

Thanks guys , just wondered because Tom S mentioned something about putting another area in the material editor just for Spec maps.
