Where should I post resources that require source code access?

by Jason Cahill · in Torque X 2D · 07/13/2009 (7:12 pm) · 5 replies

I just built a pretty cool GUIBitmapButton control and I wouldn't mind sharing it with the community that has the Torque X 23 Pro license. Where should I post that? I assume the forums are off limits. Is TDN the right place?

What about a blog or a resource? I am certain TDN would be a good place, its pretty light on content for TX

The challenge with blogs and resources is that they are not ACL'ed, right (access controlled)? There's some trickiness to the TX and TGB licenses that say "don't give out engine source code to unlicensed folks." I don't know how sweeping this is. Can I provide wholly new source code without breaking the license?

Hey Jason,

There used to be private and public TX2D forum sections...private for TX2D Pro users and public for anyone. You used to be able to post this code in the private section, but it seems over the past months that they have combined both sections. I'm GG has made another section available for this purpose or not.

Here's the post where Matt Fairfax answered that specific question...

Given the size and complexity of the Torque source code it is highly unlikely that anyone piece together anything useful from the [code] snippets posted in the forums. And, honestly, if they do manage that amazing feat of engineering, perhaps we should encourage them to stay =)

We do ask that you use common sense and not post a .zip file with most of the engine in it (has happened extremely rarely in 8 years of GG.com's history).
