Hypothetically at GDC...

Supposing I have entrance to the GDC or any other game developing conference, and supposing I am a freelancer looking to promote his/her self, what would be a good way to solicit myself to many developers without having to follow them back to their hotel rooms. Set up a booth? Walk around the floor with business cards and demos? Stand outside with hired escorts and harrass them on the way in? Thanks for any feedback.

Are you trying to solicit yourself as a possible employee to developers, or are you trying to sell a game project to a publisher? If it's the former, there is a "job fair" type area inside the GDC, I believe.

Nick, you have an entrance into the GDC don't you? And you are a freelancer trying to promote yourself to many developers without having to follow them back to their hotels, set up a booth or walk around the floor with business cards and demos aren't you? Sounds like a pretty unhypothetical question to me... (C: Surround yourself with booth babes and the people will come to you.

@Thomas, thanks for the insight.

Actually, I am making preparations to attend the next GDC. I write music, and I'm looking to gain connections with developers. I want to be effective and I dont know what to expect there. But, I now know to get some booth babes. Thanks!

Great, good luck! If you want to be a sub-contractor for developers, I would say an effective web site is the most important aspect. You might be lucky and meet someone who wants to sign a deal on the spot, but most are going to say "Great, but I'm going to have to think about it. Do you have somewhere I can check out your work?". But maybe I'm just biased, being a web developer. ;)
